Silkie thread!

A protest fee. If your protest is upheld, you get your money back. If not the club sponsoring the show keeps it. The standard lists the procedure for protests. It is not done often, but it can be done. Must be in writing, and must be before the show is complete. Read the standard for specifics.

I am not advocating protesting when the judging does not go your way. But it IS appropriate if the judge really screws up badly. I know someone who protested his own bird's win...he felt that there was a much better bird that should have won.
I want to trust the judge's judgement, and would rather just ask them their reasoning but I haven't been able to find them.

She is. Here is another picture of her:

This is such a lovely picture of your 4 silkies. It makes me think of a song my Grandma used to sing to us when we were kids about a doggy at the pet store!
Words changed...."How much is that SILKIE in the window? The one with the big fluffy tail! How much is that silkie in the window? I do hope that silkie's for sale!"

Professional pictures from the Northeastern Poultry congress! Photographer David McIntyre was there doing professional photographs. He did 2 of them for free because he said my birds were the most well behaved and he wished all of the birds were just like them

Wow, perfect backgrounds for your gorgeous silkies. By the way, I'm stealing the name "Icelynn" from you for one of my silkies. Such a cool name!

Quote: Two things, one talk to the show superintendent or secretary and tell them you would like to ask your judge about your birds when he is finished judging. Do this before they are even judged, or it you see the judge when he is taking a break, go up, introduce yourself and ask him to go over your birds with you when he has a moment. Make it obvious that you are trying to learn, and wanting to understand his evaluations.

The other thing is to talk to other silkie exhibitors, and get their opinions--especially the long-time breeders.

Thanks!

Your coop is just awesome. I love the big window!
Thank you...that big window is actually my people door. I have hardwire to cover the opening when I have the door open during the day.

You can see the door in the picture below. Still need to paint but we have had rain this past weekend and more to come.

Congratulations, Deb! He is gorgeous. Is he a partridge or a red silkie?
Thanks, he was a very typical partridge chick, from a partridge pen egg. He does have quite a bit of red to him in sunlight. I know I've seen photos before described as red partridge and he was identical. Maybe he isn't the perfect partridge color, but I love his color and he is the sweetest thing!

I think my hen went broody. I have ONE of her eggs in the house and that is all I have. I was hoping she'd lay more (she's laid about 10 before she went broody, but a bunch broke bc they were too soft shelled and then someone was eating some.. then I had another one in the house my my family ate it, GRR), but today she's been on the nest most of the day, although not always on it, but hasn't laid an egg today at all. it is cold and winter here and snowing. Shoudl I give her the egg I have in the house here? is it too cold for her to raise a chick? is one chick too few? would she take care of it, or would she keep getting off for long periods of a time? right now she gets off for long periods, but she doesnt have an egg there.

or is she just having a hard time laying an egg? I noticed that the last 2 were oddly shapen.
You have plenty of time to make sure she is really broody and yes she could be having an egg laying problem given the thin shelled eggs you've had, so I would keep a close eye on her in case she has an internal broken egg. I sure hope that is not it. If she goes totally broody she will fluff her feathers and sound mean if you touch her.
