Silkie thread!

okay so the red spots are just mud then. Well I would make a calico pen if I were you seeing as you have 2 good roo's for it

What is funny is that I am getting a gorgeous 4 month old calico roo from Bobbi Porto next week.

I have a question...
I have a splash roo with a lot of autosomal red on him. Would he still be considered a splash or something else?
Another question...
I have a buff rooster that I brought from a good quality breeder who assured me he was quality. However the more I look at him the more concerned I am. He is a truly clean buff, small in size, very compact, perfect feet, darker eyes for a buff, his comb is almost nonexistent but it is there. He is not impressive as a roo and really lacks manliness overall. His crest is lacking. I am worried about him bein able get the job done in the breeding pen. I have heard little Roos with tiny combs are hard to get bred naturally. I will try to get a pic of him up here. I wonder if I shoul hold onto him or replace him with another clean buff roo that I have?
Just needing some advice. Thank you all in advanced!

Just wanted repost this for those just coming online.

My splash girl isn't broody anymore (it took her over a month), she started laying again. I cracked her egg this morning and it is fertile

. So now I would like to collect her eggs and incubate them as soon as possible to see if my roo is a black or a dark blue. Should I collect them and set them up in my egg turner in my kitchen counter (around 70F) or set them up in the egg turner outside (temperature varies from 38F at night to 75F during the day)?

In my opinion, I would say on the kitchen counter. I don't think you want the temp to fluctuate that much. I store mine in my basement next to the incubator in an egg carton.

This is what I found in the coop lastnight. So happy to see that 1 of my silkies has decided to start laying again. First silkie egg or 2013, now I just need to wait a few weeks to see how many more start laying and if I can get 1 or 2 to go broody and hatch them. Happy dance going on.

Yay! My Silkies were laying better when it was COLDER. They really don't like this warm one day-cool the next weather we have been having.
