Silkie thread!

So I'm evaluating my Silkie roos now that it's spring and they are all about 7-8 months old. One is definitely pet quality, as his comb is wrong. Bums me out, as he is a great rooster and takes good care of the other Silkies in his run. The other...meh. Comparing him to pictures here, he isn't as nice. He is OK, but not what I'm looking for. (and now to try to find homes for them, ugh). I had another from that hatch that was much better than either of these ones, but he died, and I miss him every day.

Then there is my third. He has a beautiful posture, nice full foot feathers, lovely comb, and he is a beautiful dark black, but how red is too red for wattles? How big is too big for ear lobes? He is an onery cuss and I can't get a good photo. When I compare him to the others, it's easy to see he is much better quality than my other two..too bad his attitude stinks. He is super protective of his girls and requires being picked up every time you approach him or risk him trying to chase you.

I have more Silkie chicks growing....wish there was an easy way to tell boys from girls young.

Hi Guys,
I need help again :) This little Silkie baby will be 8 weeks old this coming Friday. I am hoping the color is Porcelain. Can you guys help me out? The head is coming in darker. Thanks guys!
PS-Sorry for the shadows!!

My visit to Catdance Farm was superb! Spent an hour and a half with Karen talking Silkies, genetics, and husbandry. She and I share a lot of the same philosphy. Wonderful to meet her and I've never seen so many drop dead gorgeous Silkies in one place in my life. I'm still star struck.

Brought home a pair of Whites hand picked by Karen. She also gave me a little crippled pullet. I'm giving her a 'forever' home. She could produce eggs and chicks too. She is the sweetest little thing. I just named her.

Named by my two year old Grandson. Fluffy Dragon is ten months old. Out of a pen with a Shorty Polston roo and Aimee Croger hens. He is in rough condition from his time in the cockerel pen but I love his comb and beak. He has a lot of hard feathers in his tail.

His tail and cushion are lacking but he is still maturing. I wanted a pullet that would compliment him.

Karen paired this cutie with him. She is out of a different pen of Catdance line birds. Six months old, she still is a baby. She has a huge bonnet crest so I named her Bonney. She's got a beautiful cushion and tail. Great pairing with Fluffy Dragon.

The little special needs pullet is going to be protected and loved by me forever. She is a doll. Can't walk or stand but scoots around on her tummy. She's been in a pullet pen and gotten around just fine. The other little pullet Bonney is her bestest buddy. I've just named her 'Dumpling'.

Twenty four Catdance eggs now in the new Genesis bator. Holy Carp! Here we go!

They are all just lovely especially that sweet little Dumpling.
Well this chick came from bearded parents, can the beard come in later? (I am sure that sounded stupid!)
I have a friend who got a 3 months old cockerel with almost no beard that did grow in later. Here's one of mine at 7 wks. They all have this same look at this age.

Don't disregard your beautiful babies yet...they still may grow to be spectacular...they have some nice markings
My **** Roos crow at all hours through the night...I think as I have o e in the garage with my brooder and the heat lamp light makes him crow then stets off the other two out in the coops...drives me nuts!
