Silkie thread!

So............ when we moved and started house hunting, my single requirement was that we be able to have chickens {of course}, even though we rehomed the kids before we left. {I am going through SERIOUS withdrawals!!!!

}

Naturally, since nothing goes the way we planned, we now have horses thanks to the 5 abandoned horses in the front yard. We've changed out some horses, but the number stayed the same {I wrote it up on my blog}. We've been busy with training, etc, but I am now to the point where I am ready to order chickens. We don't have anything set up yet, but it looks like my ship date is going to be in May for the egg-layers that I want so we've still got plenty of time to build.

I am looking for silkies; pullets/females in particular. I could risk waiting for TSC and get st. run; I could order the same with my lfs; or, I could break the bank and get sexed chicks {90% is better than 50/50, I guess} from MPC. Hunny is still burnt out from our 2 sultan and 1 silkie cockreals, so I don't think he would go along with my "plan" to breed and sell silkies.

Anyone know where I can get some silkie girls that are either close by {N/C/E NC} or can ship? I am pretty sure he is not going to be interested in driving hours to get some, but at this point, I am looking for options.

Thanks! :)

I think it was my LF rooster trying to get frisky with her, she is 17 weeks old and maybe he felt she needed some lovin. She was fine the two days with the girls. But I have plenty of options. So tractor until their pen is built. Still planning on supervised free ranging all of them together, then I will find out who did the pecking.

I built a new brooder for all my chicks sense they'll all be One Month on the 16th.
Their old brooders were getting to small and i wanted to separate the RiRs and the
Leghorns. The far Left and Right brooder are 28 inches wide and 3 feet long.
Middle brooder is 30 inches wide and 3 feet long. Temp. water bowl for RiRs,
until i go to TSC tomorrow. Chicks love it and i do to :)

Nice job! They all look very comfy in the new brooder.

So funny! My husband has the brilliant idea of moving to a town that doesn't allow chickens...my answer was "The town doesn't allow chickens, so that would be a "no" to moving there". We have far too many silkies to "hide" and that just wouldn't work. He truly acted like he expected me to say "That's ok, we'll just sell them all and move to that town". Ummmm no!

Ya gotta wonder where their head's at sometimes when they get these ideas!

Thanks! It's cut out of aluminum so it's totally outdoor ready.

Thank you so much Nola :)

I have to announce something else here.. I've been sharing it whereever I can.

We have a new member in the family..

We still haven't decided on a name 100% yet, but I am stuck on Henry. I just love that name and I feel like it fits him.

He is a Bernese Mountain dog. We did not want to get another Great Pyr. Too much like Clementine.. We were torn between the bernese and the Newf. Decided on the Bernese because of the drool factor. This line has been imported from Sweden, and the breeder has been breeding these guys for 20 years. They are registered, guaranteed and microchipped (with first shots and check-up).

Her last 3 she had to put down were 12 years old. That is a really good age for a Bernese Mountain Dog. They typically have short lifespans because they are more prone to fatal cancers. Also can have hip and elbow issues, but this line has been thoroughly tested, and again - he is guaranteed to be joint/hip issue free until 2. She said if they are going to have these issues, you find out before a year old for the most part.

His parents.. oh my.. so loveable. His dad is named Rico and is stunning. He is 7 years old. His mom is 6 and he was her last. She was just spade. He was the only pup in the litter. The remaining sibling was still born.

I'm in love.

Oh we won't have him until Saturday. Time to get the house ready for the pup!
So wonderful to feel your joy! He is so precious!
I have the best husband in the world!

Look what he made me this afternoon. I can't wait to put it up on the girls' coop.

Just beautiful! He's a keeper for sure!
So over the weekend I put the remaining Silkie pair in with the layer flock. Had no problems with picking on them until I put my LF rooster back in early this morning. I went out this afternoon(after sleeping for the day) and discover Marsala(Porcelain pullet) with almost all her crest feathers gone and hiding in the coop with my broody and her chicks. General Tso is doing fine and was outside with the other birds. Both are back in the tractor until I get the bantam set-up built. At least no broken skin on anyone.
Awwww! So sorry it didn't work out.
Les New Beginnings, or something like that =P and he looks like a danny haha

Les guiding star
Les cant stop me now
Les Dont Stop Believing
Les Wishing on A Star

Love this name trend!
Our first broody. Momma (Julia) and baby.

Too cute :) Very happy for you. I can't wait for the day when I get to post my first egg. That's a long way off though since my two silkie girls wont arrive until Mother's Day week and then they have a whole lot of growing to do.

Nori hasn't layed in 4 days

at this rate I won't have many eggs to give away and sell! Plus hatch a few myself! But my 7 eggs were taken yesterday and put in the incubator, so I will hear back monday if any develop.
