Silkie thread!

I have Bantam, Silkies, Polish, Wyandotte, that are a month old and turkeys who are two weeks. Can I move them outside to a converted Little Tykes Cabin with a 250 watt heat lamp. Its been warm this weekend, but its supposed to be down in the 20's a couple of nights this week. I assume I might have to bring the turkeys in, but will the chickens be okay with the light? Pictures to follow it is the cutest thing ever. I have it up front by my house so I can monitor the light and control it by a light switch. ...and its far away from the barn and all the hay.
We dont have those cold temps here but I would be afraid to leave them out at that age when it is that cold. Mine stay in the house until they are about 3 weeks old and then move out to my chick room with heaters but we rarely even get into the 30s . Cant wait to see your pictures.. I see those and always think they would be fun to use for a little coop :)

Well we ended up getting some silkies And have read they wont go up a ramp is this true? I need to get started on a coop for them.
Some will and some wont... In the spring I will be adding a ramp and "chicken door" to my current coop. right now they use a step to get into the coop and about a third of them need to be boosted in each evening :) I think some of the ones with the bigger crests just dont see well enough to feel comfortable going up and down. my husband told me he might build the ramp with "safety rails " lol!

I gave mine a ramp to small roosting bars in their brooder at 2 weeks old, they are 4 weeks old and have mastered going up and down it and are still working on the bars ;)

This seems too early to me, I guess it depends on how well the outside structure maintains heat with a lamp during 20 degree temps. My silkies are 4 weeks old and I don't think I'll put them out until closer to 6 weeks, and our temps have been mid 30s at night. The temp my silkies are currently at in their brooder is 75 degrees. My understanding with all chicks is you should lower the temp by 5 degrees each week until they are feathered out around 6 weeks. Starting at 95 degrees the first week. Good luck!

Had a terrific day with girls and pups yesterday enjoying the gorgeous spring weather.

Funniest of all, Bubbles decided Mojo looked like a bronc and tried a little bareback riding.

Good news! My baby paint (w/ wry neck) is holding it's head up by itself today.. I even saw it pecking at some food! I was starting to loose hope as it was laying upside down crying all night last night.. But after I gave it some vitamins this morning it started walking with its head up right! YAY!

So happy to hear that. I had one a while back and it would make progress and then go back again for a while if it got stressed, but happy to say it made a full recovery.. just takes time!
