Mine didn't start laying till over a year old. She was a May baby and she started to lay eggs in July a year later. Same with the rest of my hens. All late bloomers.anywhere from 6 months to a year. My hen didn't start laying until she was a year old. My friend's hens all start around 6 months
Beautiful babies!! Having hatched several Catdance chicks, I can verify the colors. White toes will darken. As promised
Black
Blue
Splash(pigment hole on left second toe)
Silkies and the "meat group". The Silkies are a week older than the meaties and half the size.
Buckbeak(Buck), Porcelain "Special needs" cockerel from Catdance(6mo)
Marsala, Porcelain pullet from MB(4.5mo)
General Tso, Blue cockerel from MB(5mo)
You always come up with great ideas... next time I go to Costco, I get a pie LOL!
I have had these same problems with broodies. I rarely use them.I have 2 broodies sitting in eggs and it isn't going very well. My first broody was supposed to have her chicks yesterday and nothing happened. She kept stealing eggs and bothered by my other layers, so I think her eggs are all dead. I will wait 3 more days, but my hopes are very low. The other one had 7 eggs under her, but she couldn't handle them. Every times I checked on her, one or two eggs weren't under her. I finally took 4 of them and added them to my incubator plus the 2 that my first broody stole. My problem now is they are not at the same stage. I candled them tonight and 4 are fully developed, but the rest are very "new", so not that many veins yet. Whenever the 4 will be in lockdown, should I set the other 2 in a different incubator?
I've had three that laid as early as 5 months, most 7 - 8 mos and one at 11 mos.Can someone tell me at what age do Silkies start laying? I was told my girls are about 12 weeks old.. Thank you
Just too cute!!

Welcome to the group!!Hello, I'm from Australia and I just purchased my first ever trio of silkiesI just love their little fluffy butts... Any advice would be appreciated. Mine are all grey with different shades of grey through them. One has a light fluffy head, one a dark nearly black head and the last one has a dark but not black head.. I was hoping to get a buff & white as well but they didn't have any... I'm so excited to finally have my silkie family![]()
