Silkie thread!

Ok, a bit off subject, but I just received a Groupon email with the heading "Vent cleaning" and I immediately thought of my chickens.....I think I might need therapy...

If you really want fertile eggs from her, you can 'hold' her for them to mount (if they're comfortable with your presence) to ensure success. I had to do that with my very first silkie pair. The rooster could not grasp the concept that he had to get up on her back after he grabbed hold of her, and she wasn't going to patiently stay crouched that long for him to figure it out. I wasn't getting fertile eggs, so I held the hen still for him to mount one day (took him a while, but the poor guy finally figured it out!). Viola, next few days, fertile eggs appeared.
oh wow! I'd never think of that! Ya know what? come to think of it, she's been hanging out in the coop alone for the past week. I thought she went broody on me, but nope, she's just hanging out there alone. she's sick of being chased my roosters. I want to move one rooster to my LF pen. I just don't know if that will work? will he get picked on by the ladies? or do they just leave him be because he's a rooster?

I almost lost my Ziggy today (Polish, not Silkie, sorry)- one of my personal pets! She and her best friend (Phoenix hen) like to perch on some window glass panes in the shed that they are in until their new building is ready. They've been perching there forever. This morning, I found Ziggy stuck between two glass panes, smashed :(. Everything was limp except her head. I brought her in the house to take care of her. 4 hrs later, she can stand and shuffle around.

This pic wasn't taken today.
