Silkie thread!

I think one of my girls went broody! I had 3 eggs set aside. Let's hope she hatches them out! EEE! I wish I had hung on to some of the ones I gave my friend to put in her incubator!
Congratulations and good luck!

Love the chickens checking out babies taking over. They will all be best buds soon.
I sure hope so. I put them out for a bit today too. The only that seems to have any issues is the black cockerel, Elvis. He keeps pecking at them. I'm so new to all this that I'm not sure if he's just telling them that he's the King (thank you....thank you very much) or if he's being mean to them. The others seem to care less - just curious.

always have a backup plan... although silkies are known for 3 things: black skin, afros, and broodiness

HELP Please My 8 assorted babies (including two healthy white silkies) came in from My Pet Chicken today. Seven are happily acting like chicks drinking and eating, sleeping and pooping. One is not. My poor husband has been tending this baby all day as they came in while I was at work. My little baby keeps throwing her head back and flinging her legs straight out, she wants to flip o to her back. Per the advice of a rep at the supplier my sweetie has nested her up in a towel to keep her uptight, feeding her sugar water ever 30 minutes and has her safe from the others yet still under the edge of the heat lamp. Please if any one has any ideas my poor hubby is taking it hard, e is such a trooper.

Sounds like it could be wryneck. Is she a silkie? She could have been injured while shipping. Give her some Poly-vi-sol baby drops without iron, I would say 1 drop 4 times a day given her age. Make sure she is eating and drinking. Mixing her food with water will make it easier for her to eat and stay hydrated.

Just want to inform everyone there is a documented outbreak of MG and MS here in NH, so all swaps are canceled until further notice. Be careful where you get your birds! Call the department of agriculture for more information.

Some of my lovely 10 week old chicks, look at their amazing foot feathering. Very happy with my flocks first hatch and can't wait to see more.

This is my pullet, this is the first time she's gone broody. Do they sometimes goof up the first time like other animals? Will she abandon ship possibly? I'm wondering if I should have a back up plan :)
How many days has she been broody? I'd wait a few days to make sure she's committed. And yes, have a back up plan!

hahahahahahaha!!!!!!

Omgosh, it is looking as though my hen wants to up my pullet. she's also been in the nest all morning! My rooster is going to be so confused haha. Looks like I"m going to have infertile eggs for a long stretch now. sigh...

I have a bunch of eggs in my friend's incubator. You think I should get them and have my hen sit on them? they're ready to hatch in a few days.
I ended up with 3 broody hens with 4 eggs. Those eggs got juggled so often.

Then I had the two 9 month old pullets looking like they wanted to join in.

That would have been a pile-up and a half! Good thing those 4 eggs hatched before the other two girls decided to sit down. I also gave the 3 hens some week old chicks to care for so there were some for each mom and no need to steal children away from others.

Do you only have the two hens with your rooster? The hens stop laying when they go broody.

He's probably just a mix

How often do y'all turn y'all's eggs?
My turner turns them every half hour, I think.
I don't know how often you should do it by hand, if that's what you're thinking? I've read every 4 hours, but I have no idea if that's true or not..
