Silkie thread!

I am looking at getting some silkie chicks this weekend to go with my cochins. Before I get invested emotionally I wanted to ask you all about something someone had said to me. Are the white silkies the only "real" silkies? I am partial to the buffs but if I ever decide to show in the future I want to make as little mistakes as possible now.

Thank you so much for the input ahead of time! I really do appreciate it

Yeah like sanna said, definitely go the breeder direction if you really want to be serious about showing. All silkies unless mixed are "real" silkies. They come in an assortment of colors, but white is the most competitive in competitions. You could also go the route of hatching eggs , and order from catdance, bobbi porto, hattrick or any of those really good breeders.

White is the "Original" color but there are 8 colors that are in the Silkie Standard, White, Black Grey, Buff, Blue, Splash, Partridge and Self Blue ( Lavender) The buffs are beautiful! I think they are one of the harder colors to get right with pigmentation and no off color so find a good buff breeder to get your original stock from. Enjoy your new Silkies!

All my girls lay at different rates.

Thank you for all the feedback! I found a breeder kind of close to me that breeds buffs. She also has paint and lavender. God. They are cute. Ahhh. I just can't handle the cuteness. They have little furry hats! I'm hooked and I don't even have them yet. Hubby is giving me that look....I'm sure you all know which one.

They look mostly blue to me. The one in the front, back against the camera, does it have faint stripes on it's back? I'm not sure if I'm just seeing things or if there really are stripes. That one could be a self-blue. Hard for me to tell.

You know, I have no idea! I need to get them all outside so I can take good pics of them without flash. Every time I try to take individual pics, I forget who I've done already, since a few of them are pretty similar!

Here's another shot that shows her back more, bottom right, still.

Some of these babies have an interesting masking thing going on, pretty!
