Silkie thread!

I have to say I didn't watch it; just responded to the written post. I, too usually give "showers" rather than "baths," for exactly that reason.
That's fine

Actually I have to bathe all mine today

ugg... At least I did my rooster last night! He's pretty strong and not a big fan of the tubby.

Do a punnett square. If mom and dad each are het. for Fm, each chick has a 25% chance of not getting the gene at all, a 25% chance of getting two copies and 50% chance of getting one copy of the gene. In large numbers of hatchlings, these probability percentages will be close to the actual percentages. In small numbers the probability and the actual may be very different.
WOW!!!!!!!!!! thank you SO SO SO much for explaining this. thank you so much! so far 4 chicks have been born, 3 were white and one is actually the color it should be.

so here is the 4th chick that I haven't shown you yet. it took too long to hatch and it died not long after it was out. the top photo, and following is the three downstairs that I already showed you, just for comparison in the %age theory :) makes me wonder if this first chick only carried the one copy, the two super white ones with pink beaks, full copies, and the darker one no copy.

it looks as though the darker chick didn't make it. I didn't think it would ever even make it this far. its eyes were always closed, who knwos if it could eat or drink, idk.

would you guys attempt putting silkie eggs under a black sex link whos' gone broody for the first time? she went broody 3 days ago and I'm expecting hatching eggs to arrive tomorrow.

Hey everyone,

Sure it's been posted a thousand times before but I am leaving for work soon and wanted to ease my mind. My first broody silkie's eggs due to hatch today. Just checked and it doesn't look good. Eggs quite dark in appearance and no cheeps from within. If they are spoiled will she leave them herself in a couple of days or will I need to do it? Thanks in advance,
Debra,
.

One of the chicks.

My dearly departed girl, at around 7 or 8 months.

My 3 and a half month old babies are looking so much like the hen I lost, I'm so happy

I'm a little bummed because I think they're both pullets, I was hoping for a nice cockerel

I think one has a slipped wing though (not this one, the other one)! It folds it really weird. Is there any hope that it will correct, or should I just plan not to breed?
