Silkie thread!

Here is what I "think" happened, let me know what you think of my theory. All 3 chicks came from my pullet (splash) as all eggs from my hen have been infertile, she refuses roosters. The big white and the little white one have the black dad (came from same breeder as the splash pullet, I suspect potential inbreeding)... and the darker colored chick must have the splash rooster.... can that be? the darker chick has white on its head in a couple of places and under its belly. but I'm probably wrong bc really I dont' know much about this yet, I'm learning. But it is a completely different color and the other chick that hatched out who died, was also the whitish color.

Do you think that the lack of pigment in the white chicks are from inbreeding? and that is why the darker one is black like it should, because it has a different dad?

Lighter skin is because at least one parent had only one copy of Fm. If both parents had only one copy, you could get a completely light skinned bird. Sometimes skin darkens over the first few weeks. This is especially true for light toes/parts of toes. But if the bird does not have even dusky skin, it probably does not have Fm at all. I remember thinking about plumage colour when you posted, and which roosters were probably the father, but I don;t recall your post specifics.

Is it normal for a cockerel to have a growth spurt around 5 months? I have had my pair for about a month and when I got them they were the same size. Just this week I noticed my boy has gotten a lot bigger than my pullet. Anyone have thoughts on this? I posted a pic of them the other day, but here are some for size comparison...

I have seen many of mine try this.. Drowning themselves...

They go suicidal when being bathed. They just fall asleep.. and can't seem to understand that holding their head above water is of the highest importance...
My splash cockerel does this when I bathe him. He either has a complete meltdown or he starts falling asleep, face flat into the water.

The girls have always been pretty good. It's just those boys, they're so dramatic.

What is the Fm gene?

Is there a website or a book where one could study the genes and learn to understand what is what? I have no idea where to even start because it all seems so confusing.

Many whites hatch with white down. It depends on whether they are silver or gold gened, as well as whether they have the snowy white down gene.
I'll have to remember this. The few whites I have hatched myself, came out yellowish. So that would mean that they carry the gold gene, correct?

Firbromelanosis is the name of the gene. You can research it online. I've seen Sonoran discuss it a few times on here. :)

the mom of all three chicks is my splash. she came from the same breeder as my black roo. My other roo is a splash and he came from a separate breeder. I've only ever seen the black roo mate with the splash mom. the splah roo has been sick off and on, and thus never mated with anyone, so I think anyways. who knows though. he may have mated. this is why it makes me wonder if he managed to mate once since one chick is do different??

The question I am having is, the gene question, if only the black roo was mating, how do I have 2 lacking pigment and 1 that does not? because, if the splash did in fact mate with my splash mom, then the darker chick would look splash, not blue! I'm just so darn confused.

Coconut oil kills yeast too without chemicals.
Coconut oil is the superhero of oils.

I get skin infections easily. Very sensitive skin.. If I don't wash off after beach or swimming right away I'll get this funky skin infection on my stomach, thighs and my arm pits. Coconut oil clears it right up!

Also kept infection away with Margaret - my bantam Ameraucana who had terrible frost bite on her feet from jumping in the ducks water in the middle of the winter..
