Silkie thread!

Also, now they live in large dog pen inside the coop with the big girls (2 each Buff O's, EE's, RIR's and Barred Rocks) that are 12 weeks old.
So they are getting used to each other...wondering if when they are BIGGER if they can live in harmony with the big girls? Do they mix into standard hen flocks okay?
Thanks for any help.
I have one silkie girl and one silkie roo right now and they have always been in with my big girls and boys. My little white silkie girl Cloud bosses the big girls around - LOL.

Just thought I'd share this. My silkie roo is not an agressive fella at all. Until today. I had everybody out doing the free range and one og my RIR girls ( the big kids are kept in a seperate pen from my silkies) was dust bathing and a hawk stooped down. I was all like "$@*%, not afreakin'gain" (we just had one of our cornishX get cut up by a hawk a couple of weeks ago.) Mr. Silkie Roo jumped and tore the belly feathers off the hawk. Now I have hawk feathers all over my yard and my silkie roo is so proud of himself, he's almost intolerable! LOL. He aparently thought he deserved a reward from the RIR hen and proceeded to chase her all over the yard until the big rooster put a stop to it. Too funny!
Great story!! My silkie roo prefers redheads as well - LOL

Update on my neighbor's raccoon...
So, yesterday I didn't let the my remaining 3 5-6 month olds out until mid-morning with the plans of putting them back in the coop mid-afternoon. Should be way outside hunting times for coons. WRONG!!

At 1:00 straight up, I hear a ruckus, look out the window to see the rotten little varmint running off with my white cockerel. R U KIDDING ME?!?

I race out the front door to chase him but wasn't fast enough. By the time I got outside I was only able to see him going over the fence into "his" backyard with my baby. Now Alice is gone too.

I was sooooo upset!! My girlfriend and DH did their best to console me.

Last evening we decided to live trap the coon on our own and take him out into the country and release him on the QT. I planned to lok today for a trap I can barrow. Low and behold, 12:15 this afternoon and I hear the chicken alarms go off. (The 2 remaining birds are on lockdown with the 6-week olds now.) I run out back and there he is...back for thirds. REALLY!?! It's broad daylight for Pete's sake.

I chased him off and went straight to my feed store to get a trap.

Now I'm ready for the little so and so.
That's crazy! Definitely time to get rid of the raccoon!!! So sorry for your losses...

On another note... my one and only silkie girl is the most skittish of my entire flock - was ever since she was a baby, no matter how hard I tried. My other girls of various breeds will come to me, hop on me, etc. My silkie does her best to avoid me at all costs. The only time I could touch her or pick her up was when she was broody since she refused to move off her eggs. My silkie roos were/are friendly but not her... If I try to catch her, she acts like I'm going to kill her - what is up?????? Now, if I sit on the floor of the coop, she WILL jump onto my leg on her own but if I move my hand to pet her, off she goes.

Wow that is incredible. What will your neighbors think of you getting rid of their pet? I have a trap set for the fox right now, wet cat food works great, nice and smelly.

I've got some hatching also!!!

Born yesterday outside in the coop.

Born this morning in the incubator (sorry they are still goopy). This is a staggered hatch in the incubator which I have been worried about, but knock on wood, so far, so good!
