I have heard that the Roos determine color and hens the type
They look very girlie to me. Especially the porcelain(?). Not sure about the black on the right side. I don't know if I'm seeing streamers or just imagining things? lol Hard to tell.Well, my three silkies are 3 months old today. How old are they before the roosters stick out obviously? None of these have any sign of comb or waddles. That is if you can get the fluff out of the way enough to even see their faces. I am beginning to think I ended up with three hens. No crowing yet either.

I agree, beautiful photography! Adorable chick!I wouldn't call it photography because I have had no training or anything. I just got my first DSLR, so for now I just like having fun with it.![]()
I love shooting my chickens the most. lol
I was also wondering about this kids color. I would say blue but it is very light and I am not sure how to identify lavender or any other varieties. I am not sure if you can tell from these pictures but, the lady I bought them from claimed they were show quality. I have no idea what show quality would be since I just got into silkies 3 weeks ago because of an impulse buy. However he may be to young to tell quality. * He does have 5 nice toes on each foot. *When all my chicks are older I will post more pictures for opinions.
I think he likes his picture taken.

This can be so sad and frustrating. When you catch it relocate it at least 4 miles away or it will return to it's old stomping/eating grounds. If it gets the food and gets out try peanut butter on a honey bun putting it under the trap where the food goes and smash it down on top of it. They have to really work to get it and trip the trap easily. I have had them eat like pigs and never get caught til I tried that tactic. Good luck! By the way. Raccoon meat really is tasty. In the mountains where my mom is from they have coon dinners like we have bean suppers here.Update on my neighbor's raccoon...
So, yesterday I didn't let the my remaining 3 5-6 month olds out until mid-morning with the plans of putting them back in the coop mid-afternoon. Should be way outside hunting times for coons. WRONG!!At 1:00 straight up, I hear a ruckus, look out the window to see the rotten little varmint running off with my white cockerel. R U KIDDING ME?!?![]()
I race out the front door to chase him but wasn't fast enough. By the time I got outside I was only able to see him going over the fence into "his" backyard with my baby. Now Alice is gone too.![]()
I was sooooo upset!! My girlfriend and DH did their best to console me.![]()
Last evening we decided to live trap the coon on our own and take him out into the country and release him on the QT. I planned to lok today for a trap I can barrow. Low and behold, 12:15 this afternoon and I hear the chicken alarms go off. (The 2 remaining birds are on lockdown with the 6-week olds now.) I run out back and there he is...back for thirds. REALLY!?! It's broad daylight for Pete's sake.I chased him off and went straight to my feed store to get a trap.![]()
Now I'm ready for the little so and so. Thia
