Silkie thread!

Hmm....this has me wondering now :/ We have 2 buff orpington that are 17wks old and we got 2 silkie that are now 7 weeks old. We decided to give the orpington their own coop and to get the silkie their own coop. Yesterday I picked up up a bantam ameraucana (12 wks old) and a bantam silver laced wyandotte (12 wks old). The day has been interesting .....lots of ganging up on the silkies and not letting them eat,...the poor things were a mess by late morning, so I took the SLW out to her own space and things have gotten a bit better. The ameraucana is not much bigger, so I think they are going through normal pecking order, but the silkies are so small and sweet I hate setting them get picked on. I thought most bantams would have been a good fit or else I would have got a couple more silkies. Do you find this not the case? Do they need extra protection from the pecking order or am I just being a over protective mom lol

I ended up getting more Silkies because I only had the two of them at that time. I have not been able to place my silkies with the larger birds. I may try again when the teens are a little bigger and I know they're full grown. Not sure if it'll work. I do know some people have had success in integrating silkies with other larger birds. Wish that was the case with mine. My bigger birds just won't let them come into their flock. :-(

I would love to get the silkies but I am in TN :( :(

Thanks tencowgirl! I am fazing out of the silkies, I love them but the old English game bantams are a bit more predator proof and a bit more out going. But I do miss my silkie friends, all I have left are these babies, hard to sell at three weeks however everyone wants pullets and way to early to tell:rolleyes:

Help Guys!!
My Porcelain chick is acting droopy and very sleepy this morning. I brought her inside and put her with the younger chicks. She was running around and doing fine yesterday. Any thoughts!! I don't want to lose this little one. She is on medicated chick starter and water with ACV.

I just had a chick to do the same thing and being new I didn't know what to do, she died. I had a second to start having the same symptoms and my chicken friend told me to mix 1 teaspoon of CORID to gallon of water and add a pack of electrolyte save a chick. It saved my chick! I did give it some with a dropper 3 times a day to get it in her system and then I just gave it to them all in their water dispenser. Noone else has been sick and my chick has recovered. I hope it helps your baby. The CORID can be found at TSC by the cattle milk replacer.

I'm about out of chick feed... wondering when I should start on big chicken food? They're 2 months and about 3 months. Should I go ahead and get another big bag of the chick feed?
