Do you have prednisone? or metacam? About .05ml metacam, about 2mg prednisons. For a starter dose you can double either.

I have neither...I am not even close to a vet and have been flooded in for days now. I may be able to get out friday.

ETA: She ate some egg I boiled for her.

I can definitely relate..... Kaylie will be 6 weeks old on thursday. She has a nightly ritual of throwing a temper tantrum from about 8pm til midnight at least. She doesn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours at once yet. My birds and horses are the only thing keeping me sane right now. I am cleared to go back to work this weekend from maternity leave and can't wait to get out of the house. This whole week has been spent taking advantage of the only free time for a while. All the bird pens and brooders got stripped and thoroughly cleaned. Birds bathed, getting a bit of riding horse in when the weather cooperates, and massive spring cleaning in the house too.

As long as I had the camera out tonight, I snapped pics of the rugrat too.

Wow I'm melting now I want a little girl sooo bad, my luck I'd end up with 5 boys and have to give up after that LOL I remember the nightly tantrum we called it "Fussy Time" happened every night at clockwork just like you're describing except ours started at 7pm. I remember I used to look at the clock and have this feeling of dread when it started to get close to time.

Would you mind rubbing some of your motivation off on me? You're kicking my butt in productivity and you're not even 6 weeks PP what's your secret?

FINALLY someone whose chickens react the same way mine do with cockroaches!

Try Sweet PDZ for drying. I prefer the granular form, and I much prefer it to DE.

HAHA! Yes I'm not the odd ball out!

I'm going to hatch some favorelles and a few more of my bantam lav ameraucanas for egg consumption purposes maybe they will decide that roaches are good snacks but the silkies don't even react!

I have Sweet PDZ in the granular form. I mix it in with the shavings when I strip the runs not working so great. My feedstore only sells the granular and at first I worried the silkies would eat it but they haven't tried. Maybe I need to try another approach with using it. What do you recommend? Maybe putting it down as a layer before the shavings or adding it more often to the runs? Two of my runs are on concrete so adding the shavings works the best I think but two others are on the grass.

In the past I've used play sand mixed with a little Fresh Step Kitty litter. Smelled great, stayed nice and dry. I was able to just take a horse manure fork and rake it a couple times a week to remove any clumps. I had also tried some of the cheaper clay kitty litters and sand too but they were just too dusty for me. DE and similar products bother my asthma way too much to use on a regular basis. Our winters dip down pretty cold and deep shavings are needed then.

How much of a mixture were you using with the sand and kitty litter? Sounds like something to try since scooping it would be ok I think. It's pretty darn hot here most of the year the winters may or may not get really cold. I'm using shavings mostly to help give some cushion to the runs that are on concrete also because it's easy for me to pick up at the feed store.

I may be a bit wierd, but I actually enjoy cleaning. I love the smell of fresh shavings and lysol. I also get a sense of accomplishment too.

Haha She's still a little diva and can turn into a screeching bundle any time. I escape to the barn and 24 peafowl, 10 guineas, 100+ chickens, and a donkey are MUCH quieter than her. For some odd reason I can handle the smell of animal manure, but a lil kid's diaper has me absolutely gagging.

Maybe it gets easier when they aren't so helpless....

Is she your first? I have a good feeling #2 will be easier at least for me. Someone once told me not to worry too much the first one is always the "practice baby" HAHA! That's horrible but it helped me realize I couldn't be perfect and it was ok to be stressed out with trying to care for a newborn. Once you start getting smiles and more interaction in exchange for all your care I think it becomes more bearable versus that helpless screaming phase. ::shudder::

Oh and for me it started to get much easier stress wise when my kiddo started getting bigger and more predictable. He started to sleep thru the night at a year old (!!!!!) but from that point on he's been pretty easy he's now 21 months and aside from destroying the house in a blink of an eye and climbing on everything and I mean everything it's not so bad.
Speaking of mess... here's my little terror doing what he does best!
