Quote: I don't worry unless a hen is acting ill. As long as the general flock is laying (so I don't worry about worms or other illness, or bad feed) then egg numbers of individual hens are nothing to worry over in my opinion.

Quote: Not uncommon. 3 weeks of brooding, 2 months raising chicklets, and about the time they decide the chicklets are old enough to fend for themselves (they are not), the hen starts laying again. Once she starts laying the days she will continue to raise the chicks are usually numbered. Anyways, that all adds up to about 2.5-3.5 months.
that makes sense. so basically, because she had her heart set on those chicks, her body adapted time wise. Not uncommon. 3 weeks of brooding, 2 months raising chicklets, and about the time they decide the chicklets are old enough to fend for themselves (they are not), the hen starts laying again. I like to put Rooster Booster no pick lotion on behinds when they are chicks and they have pasty butt, where the feathers end up coming off from removing poo. It tastes bad to them. I get it from the feed store but you can buy it online too.I started off with six silkie chicks from mpc within a day or two 3 died the three healthiest lived the biggest named zoey had a little poop stuck to her vent area another one walked up while I was watching and pulled off the poo zoey peeped like she was in pain and her vent started to bleed it has slowed now and she is acting normal running around eating drinking but I'm really worried what do I do!!!!

My two keep doing that LOL, I stepped in and put him in the right positionOmgosh, my rooster is totally clueless haha! I just witnessed the funniest "mating" event ever. He's a new rooster, and he's only been crowing a few weeks. So, he grabs Lucia by the neck. They're face to face, butts in totally opposite directions. he's got her by the neck, she's squawking her brains off, so I look outside and he's got her pinned that way. Meanwhile, he's all mating the air/ground. Completely nowhere near his 'target" afterall, they were face to face LOL
so funny. you'd think nature would just take its course, but I guess not! I can't get into the run easily though, and Id imagine one would have to be in the right place at the right time.My two keep doing that LOL, I stepped in and put him in the right position![]()
