50 and below is too cold for them at 6 weeks without a mama hen to snuggle under or a heat lamp.

Chicken diapers, not parrot diapers![]()
Hey guys I asked the chicken doc and he wasn't so sure about my roo Ichabod.
I'm worried if its canker or pox he is screwed. I love him already and he is so sweet. He eats great I don't really see him drink but he may when I'm not looking.
the sore in his mouth is part of the beak and he doesn't like me touching it. Then I heard either canker or pox is one of the is caused by stagnant dirt water. The place he was at the drinking water was out of a kiddy pool the water was green. I'm freaking out because mu dad put my too out with my silkie hen this morning around 6 and I just now got home. He forgot what I told him to not let him with her.
omg I'm freaking out
Here's pic..the yellow light color matches the color of the beak. Cam makes it look bit diff.

I am sorry it didn't make it, some just don't.![]()
Please don't beat yourself up about it though, just a learning experience to let them be for longer than you think. I was told to leave all eggs alone until the 25th day of incubation. I had quite a few DIS and that saddened me, but I never even saw those pip. Sometimes the ones that don't make it out are because they are "defective" in some way, and shouldn't be born. I helped a few out because I thought they needed it and I ended up culling almost every one of them, some "culled" themselves when they failed to thrive and just keeled over, some had crooked beaks so bad they couldn't eat. I have learned (I hope) to leave them alone.. but the temptation to help is very strong. That is why I say "Sit on your hands".
is a first time mother, and thank you so much I was getting really word. There's still no sign of hatching1. Is the broody a first time mommy?
2. The chicks can live off the yolk for 3 days - do not be concerned about it for another 2 days.
3. If they get stuck they get louder, and loud enough and the mommy will peck at the shell and start the process. Its why you see very few DIS chicks under broodies, they know exactly when to help and when not to - its instinctual.
