Silkie thread!

Advice needed!!!!
The first one hatched today and the girls started to attack it. Does that happen a lot? I thought silkies wouldn't do that because they are known for being such great moms. I don't know if they just got scared when it jump out of the egg so fast or what. It is inside with me now under a heat lamp. What else do I need to do? Do you think I can try to reintroduce it to the girls? And if not what kind of water container is best so it doesn't drown ?
Any advice would be so appreciated !!!
I am so sad I was hoping this was going to go better :(

Oh no, poor little guy. I have never had that problem but I have read that sometimes they won't except a certain color. Keep a close eye on her when the next one hatches.

His comb is large, and he seems to have a slicked back crest with possible "streamers". Also the hackles look a bit male-ish. I hope he was just carried off and escaped death, but roosters are usually dumped on purpose

Is he a LF or a bantam? I know you in Ireland, we don't have the LF versions here in the US.

Are you serious? People just dump them to be eaten by predators? I was astounded when someone suggested to just "let my cockerels out" to fend for themselves. I had thought it was an anomaly, but it looks like it is not. How awful!

u should have all of your broodies separated, they could have just been pecking at the fluids and all on it , u could try reintroducing after everybody hatches but it will do find under a lamp some hens just decide they r not cut out to be moms and others just need practice

They definitely were not doing that. They drew blood on it and were scared of it. I can't separate all of them I don't have enough space anywhere. I guess in my mind this was going to go much smoother and easy. She is doing great inside so I guess that is where she will stay. I hope that they will magically not do that to the other ones and I can just sneak her in later
Thanks

We don't have a lot of chicken dumping about here! - So it is a bit odd most folk sell them even the roos. I don't know anything about Silkies but S/he does look very much like the picture I got off the web I posted. Even more so today now I have it in the Dog crate. Much happier today with more room. Poor thing has drank like mad since we got it. The tail and wings are damaged and plucked. I am not sure if a wing is broken? I am going to let her be a while - not a lot I can do if it is? S/he does have a puncture wound on the back end so was got by something. Other than that no blood and no big wounds. There is a lot of hen noises from the wee one but no crowing and no egg! So the jury is still out on that. I hope for an egg of course. Maybe it is an LF and very young? Or maybe a Banty female ? If it is an LF you would have thought whoever had it would only have dumped post crow? So that makes me think it is a baby LF that has been foxed! I guess only time will tell - I have never had a Silkie before and would not have gone out to get one. Though DH was keen when he saw the lovely white puff balls on the farm we got the Maran chicks froma few weeks back. DH calles it Fraggle Mcskreech Will try to get better pics in a few more days.

Ment to say S/he has 6 toes? That right for a Silkie? All feathered too! They look good! :)

98% sure it is a boy, and most likely a Bantam since it's comb is so large yet it is small. Glad it looks like it was just attacked and got away rather than dumped. Silkies should have 5 toes on each foot, are you saying it has 6 on each? weird =P I have one special needs, messed up girl who has 6 on one foot. Let me post you some pics of a girl and a boy so you can compare them =)

PS: can you get another picture today? We would love to see the little guy!

Males (1st is young, 2nd is older)

Females

Are you giving any hard boiled egg? The yolk is realy good for them when they are like this. If it's a hen, it is most likely not Marek's. Marek's will typically only affect younger birds, 3-9 weeks or so.
she is 3 1/2 months old. no, I haven't done boil egg. I guess I should!!! :)
