Silkie thread!

That is a cockerel. He looks relatively young, which explains him not crowing yet.

How old do you think he might be? If he is relatively young could he grow into a full size chicken? Or will he always be a half pint? I had him in my arms today and he just near fell asleep on his back all snuggled up to my chest. I think he has a great temperament. At the moment - I have 2 marans and 1 amber chick they are about 14 - 16 weeks so I was thinking maybe put him in with them as the other girls are big bad buzzards! Full size LF birds and they are already lining up at the door of the shed, poor chap will not survive the attentions from those ladies! lol
He looks to be well enough apart from the munching of his tail feathers. He doesn't appear to be sneezing or anything like that. I don't want to leave him on his own for ages. I was thinking of getting another chick from the farm where we got the Marans as they have Silkies and I have room for only 1 more chick! I have a limit of 10 or my chicken math goes crazy! Trouble is I am not able to keep Roo boys here so its a bit of a lost cause Darn

Does anyone know if you can tell by how many fingers you can place between the breast bone and vent on a silkie if they are close to laying or not? I have 2 sweet girls that I think may be close. They are about 5 months old and squat when you go to pet them. (My silkie that does lay also squats when I go to pet her) One even seems to tightn up her tail like she's ready to mate.

My second egg hatched last night - sometime early this morning. She is under mom and doing great.:clap
I am hoping to integrate the first baby sometime early tonight and see how that goes :fl
Here she is ..... Oh and yes all my babies will be girls lol !!!:lau

Well getting four chicks who are less than a week old from a friend. There white which I didn't want white

bit it will be interesting to see what colors I'll get.

she has splash pair. With black hens and lavender splash.

just from that group the too apparently has partridge in him
she gets partridge chicks, lavender splash, splash, white, black, and blue.

need to figure out names. I just worry ill get attacked and there will be a few roosters but my rooster don't like other roosters.

unless when hey get a few months I put hem next to each other for a while so they can get use to each other. Idk lol
There's no such thing as lavender splash, sorry. It's weird she gets partridge though. You will probably get a mix match of colors and patterns.
