Silkie thread!

Yes and no.  Fashions come and go, so what is popular one year may not be as popular a few year later.  And vice versa.  So long as the variety is recognized, there are those who consider it their favourite.  I would recommend those new o raiding chickens select a recognized variety before stepping off into project colours.

Yes , as Sonoran has pointed out , colours come and go. It is a matter of personal choice.
I keep my whites for that reason. Last year everybody wanted partridge, so I couldn't keep up to demand. My red roo won 1 st in AOV at the three shows he has been entered in . A lady offered me $ 300 for him, but I declined. I don't like showing , I see too many sick birds on exhibit. But of course that is just my personal opinion.

I was just curious. I have had a few people noticing the partridge chicks. I didn't know if they were unusual or just popular. I am still anxious to see if the little cream striped ones will feather out white, or something else.

My favorite is splash :) And ya know what I'm so super excited about? my 4 month old splash's are getting their splashes!! they're turning out super pretty!
Hooray!

Well.. that's probably me.. I LOVE Partridge you see.. so I notice them every time I see them. There are a few of us "Parti" animals here. As I said earlier on this thread and elsewhere, its not an easy color to "do right", but a few on here have some VERY nice birds! Who cares if they don't match the description quite - they sure are pretty

Say hello to Creme. He found a very nice home with two of his broody mates. They asked me why I named a White Silkie "Creme" because he is pure white. I explained about the golden chick.

Aww! Well I love them all. I don't think I will have trouble finding homes for my pet quality ones. I am keeping the breeder quality little's. What age is recommended to wait to to see what quality I have before selling? I have a few with not the amount of toes they should have, so I know those are pet quality now. I am keeping one of my cream stripies that is short a toe just because she is adorable. :) They are in my living room, and get a lot of attention, so hopefully they will be very tame silkies

I have one very tiny partridge that I think is a runt. He eats and drinks, but every time he drinks, he acts like he has aspirated water, then a minute or so later he is fine. I'm going to have to keep an eye on him. He is the same age as all the other chicks, but is half their size. He is the little one by the feeder in the picture. He just came in from momma today and cries quite a bit. I thought he was a stargazer, but he eats and drinks and gets around okay. The three that were under her were very small. They hadn't gotten out from under her much being that it is in the 30's here. I think they were just a little stunted maybe.

Cotton My sweet little Frizzle or Sizzle? I cant remember which is which. I can tell you that both parents a silkies. the mama looks like her dad is normal silkie feathered. At almost 6 months I'm sticking with pullet.

Aw beautiful frizzled sizzle =D I hope my babies will get crests, mom is perfect except for lacking a crest, she's bred to silkie roosters so babies should be nice! I have 8 in lockdown now.

Hello all.
I seem to have had the worst luck with Silkies. Be it loss to hawk and one accidental dog. Genetic issues, or sickness. I love them but I don't have any luck.
