Silkie thread!

I have a few questions for you guys. What is the difference between showgirl and regular silkies? Are all silkies bantams? I want to purchase some hatching eggs but want to make sure I don't make any mistakes....also I have no idea if mine are showgirl or regular silkies. I am so new at all of this I would really appreciate any input.

This is a Showgirl. And he's a boy :p

Quote: As you saw, the Showgirls have silkied feathers and bodies - so they aren't a "Turken".

Your birds are hatchery or Pet Quality birds. No clue on ages, Silkies age very gracefully. And yes, they are cute and friendly and adorable...

Here are all the little ones. Momma decided she was done being a mother, and would rather eat scratch and dust bathe, so they will be raised by us.
Well some broodies are just terrible moms. My BQ Partridge is an awful mom, I had to put her in her own coop because she would let the other chickens attack her one chick, they had it cornered and it was screaming from being pecked on and she did nothing. About three days after it hatched it went out of the nest it was on the outside and she was sitting inside the coop in a broody trance with no eggs - and it was peeping "cold" and then screaming because the other birds were attacking it. She didn't move. I threw her out of the coop to go be with the chick, she still did nothing. She wouldn't call the chick for food, she would let it get under her for warmth but that was about it. It took almost three days in the other coop before she would cluck to it when it was peeping. They are back with the rest now, and the chick hides under the Silkie rooster and Silkie cockerel (to his chagrin) more than the mother when being chased by the other juvie birds. I think she is laying again too - but she isn't going to get any more chances to brood eggs.

You certainly got a bunch of cuties there! Looks like two Partridges, five whites, three blues and two blacks?

Quote: Yes and no. Fashions come and go, so what is popular one year may not be as popular a few year later. And vice versa. So long as the variety is recognized, there are those who consider it their favourite. I would recommend those new o raiding chickens select a recognized variety before stepping off into project colours.

My favorite is splash :) And ya know what I'm so super excited about? my 4 month old splash's are getting their splashes!! they're turning out super pretty!
