Silkie thread!

My Catdance babies are two weeks old now and doing great. Fat, little piggies they are!

The tiny lavender chick is the one I had to help hatch and hand feed for the first 3 days. I am having so much fun with these guys!

wow! High number hatch! And cute! congrats!

I decided to give Ella a couple of Professor Fluffle's eggs on Thursday just to see if they were fertile. I didn't have high hopes and thought I'd have to replace them with wooden eggs here soon. Today while she was off the nest, I took the opportunity to candle them. I read that you shouldn't candle brown eggs before the fifth or sixth day, but the Professor's eggs are a really light color, more off white than brown, so I decided to go ahead while Ella presented me with the chance. Both have veins forming in them. Yay! The only problem is, I have no idea who the father is because I wasn't planning on breeding anyone. My roosters are splash, blue, black and buff silkies and a blue cochin. The Professor is blue. I could get some weird looking chicks if these eggs hatch ....

There are good (and bad) qualities in both of them. A "perfect" Silkies "type" should be even in the front and back ends (drawing a line down the middle they should have equal amounts of bird on both sides), and have a nice short back so that their head and tail come in towards each other but not so much that they look like they are going to tip over.
When you say "even in the front and back ends," do you mean like Kringle above?

Is he holding his wings a little low?

Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate it. Looking at the structure of any animal and then adding fluff on top is a real art.

Yeah like Kringle =) He's quite even LOL makes a perfect heart! Snowmiser has more chest then back end, which is crazy because his butt is so FLUFFY! Let me make a sort of diagram...

It's hard to really say what a "perfect" silkie looks like, but a lot of top breeders like this guy I have. Only problem with him is his comb is wrong. It has horns and is very bumpy.

Then I also have Kringle, he is also pretty nice, but I would like his tail to grow in more full. He has a nice comb, no horns and much smoother than Snowmiser's. LOVE this picture, he makes a perfect heart

Other than that you want the full crest and tail, full foot feathering with the middle toe well feathered, black skin, nice deep blue ears, 5 toes with no extra or missing nails, a dark mulberry colored walnut comb with no horns, and nice tight wings with no slipping ( It's more difficult in males because they lower their wings to show off). You can see Snowmiser has nice tight wings in the top picture, but is holding them looser in the bottom one. Kringle has tight wings but holds them low to show off. Hope this helps!

If I forgot anything people feel free to add!
Thanks for posting the pictures with a critique! It was very helpful for me being new to Silkies and needing to learn their standard

Yeah thanks everyone I am learning also:) still have a question tho what is a catdance and porcelain Silkie?

Catdance is the name of a lady's farm that raises silkies, lots of people like her Silkies and buy her eggs and call them Catdance Silkies referring to where they came from. Porcelain is a color.
