Silkie thread!

I don't eat them, either. I've lost my taste for chicken and eggs. Hubby eats the eggs (unless they are fertile, and I'm trying to hatch them. Sorry- I don't know how to "quote" part of a post. Don't give up on Gracie! I thought my pullet was a boy up until I registered him for a show. Luckily, she showed me she was a girl before I embarrassed myself! Lots of people said boy, too. So...maybe not! Probably so, tho. :) Just don't get rid of her thinking that she's a boy.
That's a lot of Gracie Pam! lol!!! I was just thinking that when I got her parents, I got them as a pair, they both looked almost identical. Same sized combs, swooshed back crests, Ashes was the bold one, Booker was very timid. They were 4 months when I got them. Then about a month later Booker started crowing and getting streamers. Ashes never really grew. She is still tiny. Booker is twice her size now. So maybe the babies will just be mysteries until one crows.

When we got them....

What they look like now...

All this slaughtering talk is really making me think twice about breeding silkies. I love them, and love the chicks, but I can't stomach thinking about them being killed or eaten. I don't eat chicken. I know it doesn't bother some people, and I respect that, but I started breeding silkies not only for their personalities and beauty, but because I figured there was less chance of them being bought for food. It's also the reason I choose not to hatch every breed I own. Sorry I don't mean to offend anyone with my aversion to silkie meat. I'm just sensitive that way. My silkies are like dogs to me.

X2 that's what I feel about my babies, just like puppy's! :D

I'm with you, I can't imagine eating a silkie. Mine are the least demanding of all my chooks and have a lovely disposition . I have found that so long as I only breed pure and healthy birds , I can rehome the Roos. I had a lady at a local show offer me $200 for my little Jaffa and I turned the offer down.
I sell his fertile eggs for $40 per doz and his babies for $40 each, so I think I made the right decision.

So gorgeous! Youre very lucky! Maybe I will buy some of your hatchin eggs in the spring

They are beautiful! I'm so worried now, that the 7 babies I have in the brooder are all going to be boys. They came from beautiful birds, but I get gaggy thinking of what someone might do to them.  Facebookers think my Gracie is a boy now. Sad times.

I really hope your Gracie is a girl. It's so hard to tell.

my silkie just started laying yesterday!

my silkie roo had a very successful mount I saw too today!

NYD we are hatching 19 silkie eggs! im so excited!
