Silkie thread!

This. Is an egg from a first time Silky layer. She's about 6mo old.

God love em. Silkies are the only breed of chicken that tolerate our silliness.

I know. I think there is no help for me and this bug I caught. Crazysilkieladyitis. I'm doomed to a life of fluffy butts and purring chicks and being attacked by little lint ball roosters with napoleon complexes. It's okay I have accepted and embraced it.... and kinda love it.

I have a cochin who has 3 month olds still (avatar pic), that are bigger than her. I think silkies and cochins are made to be mommies. I think it's cute watching those huge chicks try to get under them.

That must be hilarious to see 3-4 month chicks still being mothered. Mine are only six weeks old, but they barely fit under her wings anymore. Too bad it's too soon to tell gender. I'd like to know what the living arrangements are going to be since Ella and the chicks are the indoor chickens.

Second chick hatched. Its name keeps being changed by my youngest. Right now it's Professor Jazzy.

Gorgonzilla. Don't ask. I don't come up with the chickens' names.

And talking about Ella, I think the kids have been feeding her and the chicks too many treats while they've been on vacation. She doesn't want to have anything to do with her chicken feed or scratch. She just whines constantly and when I go into the mudroom, she comes to the side of the pen expecting something. Thankfully the kids go back to school Monday. I've been listening to her whine since I initially made this post.

This little silkie cross, is a surrogate mum to these blue laced red Wyandotte , LF. Already they can't all fit under her, but they try.
