Silkie thread!

Hello again :)

I have been lurking in the background and have unlurked to share a picture of my 5 month olds with their Aunty Dusty. Their mumma (Bantam Cochin) is currently being kept amused with her latest hatch of 5 x 1 week old Bantam Cochins. I have my suspicions of gender on these two but still waiting for the definitive crow or egg :)
They are pet quality only with single combs but that doesn't stop me loving them to bits, they are so sweet :)

I'm pretty sure our 23 week old Silkie just laid our first egg! It's definitely not the EE and I'm told the Cornish bantam will lay a rounder egg. Is this a Silkie egg??

I would say no. That looks pretty big for a silkie egg. Holy moly. These are mine, and keep in mind I have small hands. :)

This is it next to a big RIR egg. It was 2 inches. The only other option is a Cornish bantam. The EE most likely didn't lay it. Could she just lay big eggs?

Thats not encouraging. what are the symptoms of cocci?

Lethargy, ill thrift and in young chicks it can kill very fast. Don't wait to see blood in the poop cause you don't always do, but if you've got the temp settings right their bottoms are clean and they have been eating and drinking , it would explain the sudden deaths. Just a thought , could be totally wrong. If there have been incubating issues or genetic problems they will die in the first week of life for no apparent reason.

Those are some cute fluff balls!

Polyvisol with out iron is vitamins. Pedallite is electrolytes here in US not the same thing.
I took him to the vet today. My vet isn't a chicken specialist but he does his best. After examination he said it looks like Mareks. BUT.... he had a chicken a while back that looked as if it had mareks and they killed it for a necropsy and it had worms and no mareks. So he said he don't want to take a chance. He could have a brain injury, vitamin defeciancy, or worms. So what he did is he gave him a shot of vitamins and steroid. The steroid was for any swelling of his brain he may have. Then he wormed him and gave me a bottle of vitamins to give him everyday.

About 3 minutes after he got the shots I thought he was going to die. He started gasping for air it looked like and was all wild flopping like chickens do when they are dying. I waited about 5 minutes and he didn't die so I brought him home and sat him on the living room floor while I went outside to tend to the other chickens. I came back in and he had flopped around and he was wet as if he had peed himself and flopped in it.. He hasn't eaten anyhting today at all but he apparently has drank because there is water missing from his waterer. BTW. he didn't flop into his water because I had moved it to the table just in case he did. IDK what it was that was so wet unless it was some kind of reaction or side affect from what he was given. After a few hours he calmed down and was just sitting in his cage as if he was on cloud nine. About an hour ago he started moving around his cage taking careful steps instead of flopping around. Tomorrow I'll get him back out and see how he does. I really hope it isn't mareks. He said if it is he will die no matter what we do. I just don't think it is because it is just the ones I bought that have had issues. They where raised along with 6 of mine that are the same age in the same brooder and then in the same pen outside. None of my stock have acted like this. None of mine are this fluffy either. This guy got a hair cut and I noticed today that he has a Mohawk. I cut the feathers on the sides by his eyes and the longer feathers that where hanging down in front of his face. I didn't notice that I left him with a Mohawk. lol. I just wanted to let you all know what was done and the results so far. It may help somebody else in the future.
