I so wish I had the mullah right now!!!!
I have them all the time. Just get with me when you want a dozen.

I have a friend looking for Frizzled Silkies, pet or breeder quality. For her small Flock. She lives in New Jersey, can anyone recommend someone on the east coast or close to Jersey that might have some? she is hoping to find Buff. please message me if you know of anyone :) Thanks!!

You should try in your state's thread in the "where am I, where are you" subforum. :)

As you all may know, I had a cracked egg in this batch. It died sometime between day 12 and 13. When I performed the eggtopsy, it had bright white fuzz. Does anyone know what color that chick would have been? I'm seeing that regular white silkies hatch out yellow?
In my first hatch I had bright white chicks. Then in this last hatch they were bluish and buff and feathered in white.

The first hatch whites...

Second hatch...

Second hatch same chicks at a month old....

wow, that is so crazy. Wonder what does that, lol. Maybe it hints at what genes then white double recessive genes are hiding.
Well I know for sure they all have the same father, my blue roo. I have 4 white hens and a blue hen that are the mothers of these. One of my little ones from the second hatch has almost a silvery tint to its back feathers. They apparently have gold based and silver based genes.

It must depend on the roos. I have four boys in my silkie flock they do fine. I have 3 big boys in my large fowl flock that do fine also.

Somewhere on one of the blogs I frequent they said the strain or line you get a breed from will dictate their temperaments. Dunno but I think there are many factors that determine flock integration. In my case we were told Marans are good flock birds and she was ok for a little while and then the 7-lb LF went vicious on our 2-lb POL Silkie pullet so the Marans was immediately re-homed. A year later our normally gentle White Leghorn alpha had a severe moult and came back with increasing aggressiveness even toward her best buddy Partridge Silkie friend so had to re-home the Leg also.

Now the 2 Silkies are the oldest hens and the remaining 2 LF pullets submit to them. The LF are chased sometimes by the Silkies but the LF just run or jump over them and no one is ever hurt. However, I HAVE seen the 2 Silkie hens get combative with each other but they are on equal terms size-wise so I don't interfere with their flock politics. They free-range and we can hear and see them all day long to monitor any dangerous situation but since the bullies have been re-homed there's peace in the yard now.
