Silkie thread!

Hi there anyone know where I can get a couple of silkies in Southern California? I'm in El Monte, please and thank you.

For less expensive but still pretty Silkies contact Wes's Pet and Feed in El Monte. I called ahead to Wes to ask if he had Silkies. He said he was having a private breeder bring in about a dozen Silkie juvies to the store for private sale. I called every day until Wes said they were finally in-store. I bought my Black Silkie pullet (gorgeous full crest) from about 10 assorted colors Silkies at Wes's. The Silkies were just old enough to identify the pullets from the roos. I wanted another Partridge Silkie pullet but fell in love with the beautifully crested Black Silkie in the pullet pen. I paid the $10 and grabbed my beautiful girl and ran LOL! Call Wes's Pet and Feed on Peck Road and ask him about his private Silkie breeder contact. I bought my Black Silkie 2 years ago in March for only $10 and she has always been more beautiful than our hatchery Partridge Silkie.

Wes also sells other day-old chicken breeds and even unsexed Silkie chicks mostly from Privett Hatchery in New Mexico. His chick prices range about $7 and adult birds go for $10+. West has been selling hatchery pullets and bantams for at least 10 years that I know of - Easter Eggers, Dominiques, unsexed Bantams, Buff Orps, Polish, Brown or White Leghorns, Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds. Australorps, Sussex, Wyandottes, New Hampshires, Hamburgs, Welsummers, Marans, Cochins, Brahmas, Production Sexlinks, just to name a few. He also has a display area of several gorgeous adult roos of various pure breeds at the back of his store for sale in the Spring.

A fancier private breeder is Amber Waves Silkies in Norco. They were actually cameo'd on Tori Spelling's reality TV show. Amber Waves sells show quality Partridge, Black, White, Splash, Blue Silkies (Buff too I think) and dwarf goats. You have to contact via website or phone them to be notified when they have pullets available for pickup. The older a Silkie is the more it will cost. Amber Waves will also do a DNA testing for $25 each bird if you want a definite sex but you'll have to wait for the lab results about 2-4 weeks. Amber Waves is probably where I will go to get a show quality bird next time if Wes's Pet and Feed can't get any more from his breeder contact. Unfortunately private breeders can be fickle - breeding for a couple years, getting tired of it, and go on to other projects.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Oh my goodness Ty! Your birds are beautiful!! These are the two colors that I am working for right now..by buying eggs! I have some pretty good splash on the way I think..the chicks are looking good. No whites! Ugh...do you sell eggs?? I am in love with the bearded silkies!! Again, yours are soo beautiful! Let me know if you sell eggs, and know you can get some white ones sent.

two of my broodys have laid together in the same box...they are kinda sharing eggs. To begin with all together they laid 13 eggs and I know if it was by accident or what but they have bumped three eggs out over the last two weeks. Its day 17 today and the one egg is on the floor in front of the box and has a crack on it. Should i just leave the egg or maybe put it back under her. Its a small crack but will tell you guys more later. Any advice on what i should do would be great. Thanks

How deep is the crack ? You may need to tape it. I'd pop it back under her and see what happens. If you see any oozing , discard the egg.

Hello:) I'm in Southern Ca in the Santa Clarita area about an hours drive from you, I occasionally have chicks. All the ones I currently have now are sold :/ But I also know of another breeder right here near six flags and she almost always has chicks, she has all different colors and even breeds the showgirl variety:)
