So what you're saying is much like gender the color can be a big surprise too! NBD, I'll see how black this black chick looks and make a judgement call. It varies with them by the day too, sometimes they look more black, other times less. Natural light would be a better way to tell but I live in New England and even though it was 80 yesterday it's 50 today.
I have quite a few surprises on my hands since I also have some easter egger chicks that I got for eggs. Should be an interesting summer
We also have RI red chicks but my mother in law is taking them as soon as their ready to go outside. I just figured no point in everyone having a house that smelled like chickens
