Silkie thread!

Just beautiful aren't they!
This is "Lucky" who is now very spoilt. Her mother died within a day so she came inside with a heatlamp. Now she comes in every night!!!!

Did you post this on the BYC thread "people with house chickens" - they would love to see this photo. Extra spoilt chickens on there LOL. Out of 5 chickens we've kept in-house for quarantine purposes the Silkies have been the best to keep indoors - except for the extra fluff that gets in the way of wearing chicken diapers. We don't use velcro diapers since the fluff sticks badly to it so I made my own diapers using very soft underwear elastic uncovered and large safety pin for the x-crossing on the back.

Gorgeous boy and gorgeous camera shots - love your camera.
Your shots even catch the slight reddish-blue highlights on the mulberry comb!!

Thanks Sil, his name is ' snow dog ' . That little red spot is blood. He runs along the fence antagonising the BLR Wyandotte roo. Blue got out and trounced him once. I was horrified to see his bloodied red head. But it was just superficial . We bought a more recent , upgraded version of my camera for our daughters 18 th
This week. I can't wait to have a go of it.

Daniel your coop looks great! The only thing I would change is the ladder. You would be better off with solid board with the little rungs screwed or glued on top. When they are jockeying for position I can see someone getting their leg caught in the gaps. For easy cleaning horizontal about 2 inches apart works for mine. Your chicks look very happy.

Thank you for your posting Sylvester,

I will pop it on that thread now. She is just gorgeous. There was more to the story of this lil girl. We think her Mum had a heart attack or similar as we found her sitting on the lawn untouched early hours of the morning. Panic hit as the baby wasn't with her. Found her upside down, stiff as a board with the cold under the ramp to their coop. She had hit her head on the way down and her eye was full of blood. She was gone, but a quick little heart rub brought her back (I'm a nurse) and now, we have "lucky"..... The luckiest lil Silkie in the world. She loves to hang out with her Silkie friends during the days, but come sun down and she heads for the door and knocks with her beak. Mind you, I am an animal nut and also have a galah who is 8 maths old that was hit by a car when he fell out of his nest. He shouldn't have survived either but some bandaging and talc and "Billie" rules the house. Can't fly and has a deformed leg, but he is happy and healthy. A dwarf alpaca, two pound rescued kelpies that we're going to be shot for liking the sheep and a big brute of a male cat called John that I got from shelter. He had never had a home and was 41/2 yr old. He is my big sook. Add in two very spoilt black sheep and a myriad of chickens of all sorts and there you have me. Home is the best place on earth!!
