I use my hens it's never long before somebody's broody, they go broody much more then I want. I have chicks now that I have to find homes for. I keep telling myself not to let them have any more eggs! But they try so hard and put little pieces of hay on their back to hide and I feel bad and give in. Lol then I have a hard time parting with them. I'm trying to convince myself to take out this cute little round brown egg right now lol.
When I do have a few eggs I need to bring in when some are late hatchers because of another hen laying where one was already sitting for awhile or just a late one and the hens start leaving them grow cold and kicking them around I bring them in and put them in my home made incubator my daughter made out of a styrofoam ice chest and I have had close to 100 percent hatch rate out of it. I do have to watch it close on temps and humidity, so I'm not a good one to ask I would like to have a nice one my self but then I would really have a problem with to many chickens! You can do a search on it and find lots of good info, Best of Luck!

Aww they are so cute . But the cone is what grows at the top of there beak between the eyes. At this age if its still flat and no bump or lump or acorn forming then its a hen. :) Did u see the 2 pics i posted of the cone on my 2 roos
