Silkie thread!

Aww they are so cute . But the cone is what grows at the top of there beak between the eyes. At this age if its still flat and no bump or lump or acorn forming then its a hen. :)
Did u see the 2 pics i posted of the cone on my 2 roos

OH thank you ! i will go home and check their little beaks tonight :)
I think they are both flat well im hoping as im hoping for hens.
I plan to keep these two little ones separate from my doms . If one was a hen and one was a roo would they be ok together or would
the roo need more hens ? I know this is true in other breeds secretly hoping in silkies theres an acceptation to the rule :)

Ive never heard that ive had many breeds and had just one chicken at a time and they were fine and have had just pairs roo abd a hen andthey were fine so u will be ok either way :)

And the silkies with the bigger top hat lol thereheads are very tinder so just one little blow could give them drain damage or death so yes keep them away from the bigger chickens.

Don't take away their other water sources in the heat of the day. The little ones should catch on quickly as everyone else uses it, but chickens can very quickly die without water. It may take them longer to learn, but better that than death in my book. My suggestion would be to take out the bowl in the evening and watch them. Once you see every chicken use it, never put the bowl back in. But, leave the bowl in during the heat of the day until you've seen them.
I went out earlier this morning to watch them before the heat of the day set in, and the younger babies just went right up to it and started drinking from it!! Woo hoo! They must have been practicing and playing with it earlier before I got out there :) So I have seen all of them using it now. So I think I am safe to leave the bowls out now, and have them only use this. I was told they learn pretty quickly but wow, they sure caught onto it fast :)

At a guess I would say you have one of each. Yes Roos can live in harmony so long as they grow up together. I have a breeding pair of white silkie alone in a pen and the hen is not oversexed. Btw it's Comb not cone.

LMAO now your first post makes way more sense to me !! Comb ! yes i know what a comb is wasnt exactly sure what a CONE was lol
Thanks so much , i will get more pictures over the weekend and get close up of their Combs !

I will try getting a pic :) do I have to put it in te water? And how often can I give 2 drops to Jed?

I would put a couple of drops morning and night for the first few days , just to make sure he's getting it. Often you will find that eating and drinking is quite difficult.
I make up a soft scrambled egg and mix a drop into that as well. Keeping him hydrated is very important, is he drinking on his own?
