Silkie thread!

Thank you. :) That would be neat, how do I do that?

You can search for "2015 calendar" or go to the forum it's under "pictures and stories of my chickens".

Make sure you read instructions in first post but basically you just post up to two pic in the thread.

I found it thanks! I entered 2 pics, I have another I wanted to use, but the limit is two. I chose the one above, and this one

I really wanted to use this one too

Lol It's probably good they made a limit, I love photo contests!

My 3 little blue silkies are 1 week old now!!! So adorable!

I free range silkies and heritage Rhode Island Reds. Always have for many years. There is plenty of room for every one to stay out of the way of the dominate hens. Recently I started penning the separate breeds in their own pens at night. Every one has more room to roost or pile in peace now. Silkie mama's with chicks are kept separate from the main flock for about a week until the chicks are following and listening well. Also, silkie chicks need shallow water dishes. They drown in water deeper than an inch.

My three year old Grandson with the mixed LF and bantam flock.
I just love your setup and all the chickens free ranging! This is my idea of the perfect farm house one day with silkies and LF roaming freely.

I've lived and farmed here for twenty five years.

Because of nocturnal predators, They all go into their respective pens for the night. I keep grow out kids, adult silkies, and adult LF in their separate runs for three days and nights straight to train them. After that I can turn them out everyday all day. Then when I'm ready to feed for the last time in the evening, they all know where to go. The juvenile silkies are just like human teenagers. They take the longest to round up and settle down so sometimes I let them stay out an hour or so longer. Since this picture was taken, I've added electric fence to the perimeter of the pens. No more losses in the night to coyotes since doing that.

Good choice! Not that my opinion matters at the end if the day but I like the one you entered over the third one. It's beautiful too but seeing the light chicks w the white momma is striking.

Need some opinions . Ive tried searching other threads but feel confused about identifying this problem. Hoping all you wonderful silkie lovers can help. I have a 7 week old silke chick that occasionally moves it's head/upper neck side to side (like tipping down towards shoulder)it's not a hugely pronounced movement more like rocking motion. I've only saw this happen about 10 or so times & I've had it since it was a week old. They have been on medicated starter since I got them.the movement hasn't gotten any worse up to this point . It's eating drinking & growing fine. What could this be & what can I do?
