Hello Everyone I want to start breeding my silkies and make some breeding pens and then give them each a day to go into their big run, instead of making a bunch of smaller runs. Should I do shifts? How will I do this? Thanks!

Freaking coon got our only silkie! I know it was a coon because only the head was gone
She/he was my daughters pet and she is so upset. This has not been a good week. One of our kittens was stillborn and my daughter worked for over 30 minutes to save him but it was just to late and then three days later her chicken is dead.
The local feed store has one more shipment of chicks coming in for the season and then they are done and guess what that last shipment is ... silkies! They wont let you pre-buy it's first come first serve (straight run only) so we'll be there when they open and get her a couple. Out of the 20 chicks we got back in April, 15 of them were roo's. Fingers crossed that we have better odds with the silkies.
I'll post some pictures after we get them home.
You all are right !! It did start with HD disease and into CHEC pretty quickly. You did make me fell better.I have sold some..mostly babies. And sold 3 grown last week ....so proud of myself ..only to get double # in chicks.!!..EVERYONE HAS THE DISEASE, LOL so your NOT a lone.... hahahahha
I hope it is a girl because i have 2 blacks i thought were girls and someone pretty experienced told me that bleeding in the hackles is usually a male....that would mean i have 3 cockrels.. no pullets. Hope shes wrong....Looks like a hen , but a pic without wire would be better

Nice to have you back.Hey everyone! Im back from almost 2 months of no BYC. I've been super busy with sending some of my chooks to new homes. marshie, my splash silkie, finally went to her new home with @starlingdaly yesterday, who has already fell in deep love with the little fluffy. her eggs I incubated to hatch on the fourth of july all hatched.....with 4 roos and 1 hen! LOL anyone in NC please PM me if you would love some of these cross cuties! ANYWAYS out fair is coming up here in NC and im crazy excited to see some of the silkies there! I may order some catdance silkies to hatch and raise for the competitions next year...her silkies are dreamy. heres happy little marshie after her accidental bath before she went to her new home!
I intended to wash her feet in the bucket of baby soap and water when she decided to flap and try to wriggle out.....that ended up with water and suds all over her! she loved the blow dryer though! who knew wet silkies smelled like wet dogs?!
I hope it is a girl because i have 2 blacks i thought were girls and someone pretty experienced told me that bleeding in the hackles is usually a male....that would mean i have 3 cockrels.. no pullets. Hope shes wrong....
