Silkie thread!

My new Silkie hen is so vocal! She is in a smaller area with Stan and a Polish. I don't know if she's irritable because she's away from her old buddies or what. I did find an egg this morning! I don't know if it was hers or the Polish. @a little chiken is taking the Polish, so it'll be just her and Stan for awhile until my Silkie eggs from @AZChiknGoddess hatch and grow up.

My Silkie cockeral. He is about 18 weeks now.

Thank you. I was hoping he would be girl as we already have a frizzle polish cockerel. But he is very friendly and I am now trying to convince everyone that he needs a lady silkie friend as all the others have someone the same breed. But I keep being informed that 8 chickens is more than enough. :(

8 is definitely not enough. I though 5 was enough and now I have 18. By that math, you'll need at least 15 more. LOL.

I thought 4 was enough and now I'm going up slowly. I have six now. Hoping to get a few more, but I live in town so I can't really have more then 10.
I only want 8-9 right now, but it's almost like a disease. You start wanting maybe a few more and the maybe even a few more and then even more and then MORE!

Sheesh, I didn't even want chickens to begin with! At all! My husband wanted them and I was very reluctant. When we went to pick out his chickens he wanted 2 barred rocks. I wanted a polish. He refused to let me get my "pretty chickens" so I got a duck instead. Then I learned ducks need friends so I got a second duck. All was well in my backyard until I wanted more ducks. I got 3 more ducks and one more chicken. An easter egger. Those ducks were the most unfriendly, skiddish, messy, disgusting, things. As much as I didn't want chickens in the beginning I started liking them more and more than the ducks. I loved my first two ducks though. They were fun and friendly. Anyway, I started resenting the 3 other ducks and decided to rehome AZ ll 5 of them together and just have chickens. Long story short j now have zero ducks and 11 chickens! 6 of them are 2 weeks old and unsexed. So any males will be rehomed and replaced in spring. Oh, I forgot to mention, I got my "pretty chickens" 2 silkies and a polish. :D and the husband pays no attention to his barred rocks anymore. They're my girls now.

We got started the same way! My husband wanted the chickens, and I thought he was crazy! We started with 8 (7 hens and a rooster) and I just fell in love with them! I told him not to bother, I had this. Now we've got 20 or so Silkies, a trio of Japanese bantams, 8 turkeys and 16 guineas! Ducks are on the list for us too, I used to have some Calls and loved them, once my hubby builds me a pond and a duck house, I will have my ducks again!
