This might have been already discussed but I am wondering if (not including crowing) female/male silkies make different noises when they are talking to you.

Can someone please answer this question

I am building a coop with a run all in one.

The coop is elevated about 42" off the floor

I have a series of ramps they need to walk up in order to reach the deck and then they can walk in the coop

I know their (silkies) eyesight is not the best

I have 2 buffs that have really big puffy tops, my concern is they will accidentally fall of one of the ramps and get hurt

Do you think I should put up a railing so they don't/cant fall off?

Thank you!

Well, asking for critique is kind of a touchy subject. Its hard to tell a lot of things from photos. Also sometimes the criticism can be not so sweet, but remember it's still just an OPINION.

How old is he? You would need additional pictures as well. feet (5 toes well spaced ???) wing (does he have the axial feather ???) Close-up of the comb(shape, size, color).

Positives I can see; He appears to be a very nice even white color, looks like good feathering on the feet, and he's Fluffy.
Negative; red comb (should be black or at least mulberry)

I am still pretty new, so don't take my opinion as fact. Look up the standards. Talk to local people or people at shows who are experienced.

Thank you for posting. I was looking for an honest critique. I did not want an ooh pretty birdie response. His come is darker in person. Pictures can do weird things to colors. He does have correct toes etc.

Silkies are pretty defenseless against bullying by bigger birds. Be careful if you are planning on putting them in the same pen. Silkies with really big top knots are the most vulnerable. A really strong peck by a big bird can kill a silkie youngster pretty easily.

Thanks! I just got my first few silkies for free from someone on Craigslist. One is a barnyard mix and doesn't have much Silkie, but has a cute fro. The others seem very small. The gentleman I got them from said they are about 20 weeks old. I'm sure they're not showcase worthy, but I would like some opinions on what color they are. I will post pics later today, I had to give them a bath yesterday because they had quite a bit of goo stuck on their feet and were not very clean. They are so skiddish, I definitely will not let them out with my big girls for at least a week.
