Silkie thread!

Check for streamers in the tail. If its a cockerel it should be getting them about that age.

I think it's easier to tell with cockerels.

With pullets you're never quite sure until they lay an egg!

seriously?! LOL Belle is a silkie mix. She has the feathered feet, beard and crest, black skin, 6 toes. Docile just like a silkie. And is beautiful :) Mom is a red sexlink and dad is partridge silkie. She LOVES perching up high...today she discovered how to escape the pen I have them in and perch on top. Elsa my white silkie does the same thing!! not even 5 minutes after putting her back in she was back up. I give up LOL all the dogs are chicken friendly so no danger.

My question is she was born with gray comb. Given how pink her comb is compared to at birth think she is close to being ready to lay? 20 weeks old

just chilling out lol. you can see her comb here

Not even 5 minutes after putting her back in..LOL

And Elsa doing the same thing

My Silkies are 19 weeks old today. That's got to be close to laying age, right?

My sweet, beloved Didi.

My little cockerel, Tika. He's the nicer of my two roos.

My not quite-so-sweet but very protective cockerel, Gingy.

They are so cute! Where did you get them? Gingy doesn't look as nice as Tika. It's funny how chickens can look nice and be nice, and look mean and be mean.

So I am pretty worried. I picked up my white silkie rooster and a BUNCH of this gooey saliva dripped out of his mouth. What is going on! It drained out of his mouth for about 20 seconds as I just watched horrified!

there should not be any lasting effects, if the fluid looked like thick water. it happens some times. its the equivalent to a baby spitting up due to abrupt movement.

Oh thank god! I was soo worried! He is my breeding rooster and good quality and a sweet heart! He even raised his own bunch of chicks! The babies momma died just a few days after they hatched and my white rooster took them as his own and raised them all! lol
