Silkie thread!

This is a chicken I used to have. I was told she was a silkie, but her feathers are smooth. Is that something that happens occasionally in silkies?

The only time I know silkies have smoother feathers is when there sizzles, but there feathers curl. She might have been a smooth sizzle, but I doubt it. More then likely a silkie mix

Are silkie roosters generally more mean than some other breeds? one of my silkie roosters and two silkie/brahma mix cockerels all have pretty bad attitudes. (actually, one cockerel killed the other last night.

My uncle has a silkie rooster who chases his kids but gets picked on by their EE hens. That rooster doesn't attack me and even let's me pick him up. I personally never had a silkie rooster that was mean, but every chicken is different, and don't always follow the breed "standards" for attitudes.

Everything I have read is silkie roosters are calm and friendly... I decently wouldn't breed yours, they would just be passing down that aggression. I don't have a silkie roo, but my friends does and he is fine. Personally I would sale, give away or get rid off all your aggressive ones and get a chick, young cockrel or rooster from a breeder that has a good natured rooster.
I have had to do this in the past with an aggressive rooster (tho he was my only rooster at that time and his aggression to people and hens) but I tied his legs together with a soft rope so he couldn't walk. Then I feed all the non aggressive birds a favorite treat around him do they could eat and he couldn't. He also couldn't chance or harrass them. I left in in the shade and watched him of course for about an hour. I had to do this twice but it did help. Worth a try :/ it won't hurt him.

*personally. Not decently
Auto correct sorry

I have two partridge hens, a blue hen and a black with silver leakage roo. I'm not sure which hen laid the eggs but they were the same egg. I'm guessing from the blue hen but these just hatched two days ago. So cute.

Do you think they are blue? They look blue to me.

This was my blue silkie rooster when he was a chick

Sorry. Had to edit cause two pics that weren't supposed to be there appeared

I have found that all my silkie roosters are friendly. In fact I have all my "extra" roosters roaming and all the roosters get along - maybe a tiff or two but nothing serious. I pick up all my birds. I have a motto for my critters - If you are not nice, you Don't get to live here. Trust me they have a terrific life and get the best of everything so I guess they talk with each other and decide - hey, let's just get along. My Great Pyrenees has roosters, cats, kittens and whatever sleeping on, under and beside her all the time. Wonder why the world can't do that?
