Wow that chick had very long osprey feathers. It has been my experience that most of the yellow chicks turn into white adults . I've even had the prettiest of soft grey turn into white .
What type of chicken is this? I bought a supposed silkie chick and it turned out like this? Except with black skin and five toes.
1 of my babies in not sure if it's wing feathers r right don't seem like a Silkie to me but only have Silkie in there pen![]()
Well he is now in freezer camp.....Japanese bantam X ee. Some silkies can come out smooth
I separate them 1 hen had a chick and 3 eggs under her so I put her the baby on 3 eggs in a dog crate I have she's good now I have a feeling it might have gone bad fingers crossed all will be goodIt shouldn't. Silkies are hard to break from being broody. As long as they aren't disturbed they should be fine
If you have more hens in that pen I would separate them. I've let 2 broody's hatch out a couple chicks each and they did fine. I think it was because there were so many hens wanting the chicks they trampled the babies trying to sit on them.
Hey all. I am new to raising chicks. I have 3 Rhode Island reds, 2 barred rocks, and 6 silkies. They are all still really little, still in a brooder. So far everyone is getting along fine. Any suggestions? Will they be ok together?
There are several opinions on this matter.I've had silkies in with my other large fowl bird before and they were fine, my friend has silkies with his large fowl. Personally sense they are all chicks and will grow up together I think they will be fine. Just make sure you watch them and monitor as they grow. I would cull out the aggressive birds if and when you start to see any. But I think they will be fine. Once they are grown I would not add any adults birds that are not silkies ro the flock so If you want any. Other large fowl breeds I'd get them now as chicks so they all grow up together. Also as long as they have plenty of room in the coop and run if you are keeping them up then that helps cut down on them picking on each other. This is what I read is a good size for you coop and run...
4 square foot per chicken in a coop
8 square foot per chicken for a out side run.
R.I.P. Peppermint. We found her body on the floor this morning under the roost. She seemed OK yesterday and laid an egg. I did not see any injuries. She was 10 months old.
The other three Silkies and the chicks that share the coop and pen seem fine. All the poops that I saw this morning are normal. I am headed out to clean the coop and will look for anything unusual.
