she such a good surrogate mom

Lovely. I leave the eggs until at least day 26.

I just had 4 little blue Silkie/Blue Splash bantam Cochin babies hatch. I am trying to see if wing sexing will work for me, if I can figure it out. My mixed breed standard birds don't have feathers or fluff on their legs so I can use zip ties but what can I use to mark dark colored Silkie/Cochin babies? I have to be careful what I use, when I hatched some Silkies last year I put latex rubber bands on them and when I took them off, I missed some and cost one little guy his foot. I don't want that happening again and I am afraid that I wouldn't be able to see the zip ties under their feathers. I need another option and since they are not light colored I can't use marking pens or food coloring.

Thank you!

They were my last ditch effort for silkies I lucked out.

I was suppose to get 2 bearded from s breeder- and her whole hatch was bad (incorrect incubation)

So immediately after work I flew to the local feed store they were OUT

So then I rushed over to the co-op in the next town- and they had these two little gems ^_^

you can use non toxic vet paint sticks/ livestock markers. I use them on my dark birds, and horse during hunting season.

sorry it's blurry, and dark. my cam battery was dying. had to take and upload before it died. this is a multi pack with three colors in it. it averages about a dollar a stick. this is tsc version. the item code is 1019792.

Ooooo I think I need some of these

I love my silkies. I have about a dozen pures plus quite a few of thier babies. My girls go broody at the drop of a hat. Here are two of my girls sitting on a clytch of 20 blue easter egger eggs that they claimed, 6 white leghorns, 6 bantams and im pretty sure there is a pear tree somewhere under there! Lol. They tried to hatch rocks and a couple golf balls earlier this year so at least they are on the right track now....
