Silkie thread!

Hey!!! We are new and decided to post our lil chickies. We only have 4 silkies but soon we have more!!! We have 2 that we didnt raise from chicks that are white. 1 is laying and her name is Gertie. The other we have yet to name. But we do have 2 more lil chicks that we raised since theyve hatched! Here they are!

Here are two of my chicks. They are a day apart, but the dark one is a good big bigger. Pretty sure it's a silkie mix.
Does white on white always make white? Cause the light one and another chick I have don't look pure white

Recessive x recessive white silkies always produce white. The chicks can be all sorts of smudgy colors though at hatch and in the beginning.
You will know if they are silkie crosses right away by examining the primary and secondary wing feathers as they come in. Crosses have smooth feathers, not silkied. Especially the first cross. As they are crossed back to silkie, the chicks get progressively silkier with each generation. They are both pretty. I love the partridge markings. Seems to me they appear crossed to silkie.

I had an Aunt Gertie. From College Point NY. I'll always remember that name!
