Silkie thread!

My silkies newest hatch!

Here they are again!

the 3 chicks on the right are silkie/brahma crosses! (I incubator hatched these)

Here is a close up of the blue one!

At this time I only have 3 silkies but looking at 2 polish. My silkies are only 6 weeks old but was wanting to know about a roost. I have some 2x4's in there stacked up 2 high and they seem to,love jumping on them. What is the best height for them and is it better to have a flat board or a rounded one?

I have the same question. My bantam coop has a 2' high roost, because I have flighty breeds like sebrights, but obviously it needs to be lower than that for the silkies.

mine prefer 4 by 2, on its side. If they are clenching their toes all night to hang on then round would be better than timber with edges. I have an 8 foot timber ladder with round rungs ,( I have noticed that the majority of my silkies sleep on the verticals rather than the round rungs.) The ladder is leaning against a 3 foot high nesting box. It allows them to walk up to whatever height they like. Some even sit on top of the nesting box.
Just be sure to providide a ramp.

My silkies sleep on the ground in hustles of fluff.

they also will occasionally roost on a VERY low roost.

mine as well. Their roost is only 6" off the ground
