They're not that good egg layers & unless your okay with eating black meat than they can be, but silkies are for broody moms and just for fun.

I live on a farm and have raised silkies for many years. As long as they have adequate shelter from the elements and predators, they will be fine. For big bonnet birds I either trim around the eyes or keep them in a more confined area.

Thanks ^-^ I really do love this little guy, he's my scragga muffin. No matter how many times I hand preen, bathe, blow dry, clip, hand preen some more, he still looks like he went through a car wash the wrong way XD I'm totally depressed at the fact that I'm gonna have to sell/trade him, but im hoping he will go to a good home ^-^ besides, im hoping to get another siliei for him, or buy another silkie with the money i get for him.
