Does anyone have any ideas on how to encourage silkies to not brood? because my silkies keep trying to brood and they've lost weight because they won't leave the nest. And it's too late in the year to hatch chicks.
I have one sitting on eggs right now, and I tried to get her off for a few days but finally gave up. I gave her a few eggs and have put her in a coop by herself with food and water and plenty of room to take care of her other needs, but I do worry about the cold now. I never would have imagined one would go broody this late in the year, but what can you do? I would just keep putting yours out with the others just so she can eat and drink at least. Once they have it in their heads to brood it can be difficult to stop them.
