Silkie thread!

I have never seen a rooster as sweet as him,he is so good with his girls. He won`t let me near him as he came from a place where he was just a chicken and no interaction,I`ve had him for a couple years now and when I got him he was in pretty bad shape,I need to remove him when I get another rooster as he has daughters now in the pen with him,I have ebay eggs that are due to hatch under one of the broodys, hopefully I will get a white rooster out of the eggs, she is sitting on 12 eggs.

Well I finally moved these cuties out of the silkie shed into!!!
The Play section...New babies are on there way in, so these cuties had to move outside..
They are covered so they shoud be very comfy..Funny how they seem to like to stay in the huddle..

WOW! What a fantastic set-up!!!!!! I SOOOOO want something like this! Did you all build it yourselves? If not, tell me who built it.... My silkie babies are getting bigger and I have run out of room to put them.....HELP!!!!! Anybody in Jacksonville/Orange park that would be willing to do a simple building project for my babies at a reasonable price? My mental health is at stake here. My 85 year old parents just moved in with me. They are both bed-ridden and in various stages of Dementia. My only solace is to "escape" to the chicken coop when they are both asleep. The silkies don't care if I hug them and cry. Then I go back in and do what I have to do.

It's wonderful to have such a good "Peep-daddy" with the talent and willingness to build such a beautiful set up. I hope to see you all at the upcoming Bent Creek Show. I have to get a sitter for my parents every time I leave the house. They cannot be alone for a minute.

I'm very new to silkies. One week and one day to be exact.

We have 6 chicks, a buff, various blues, and two that look partridge. A friend has some white in the incubator for us.

It all started when my son begged for a naked neck chick. What a sweet girl w/ a bow-tie. Now he wants showgirls!

Enter silkies. And now I love them. Their history is fascinating.

Right now our chicks are dirty just from hanging out in the brooder. Jeepers. We keep our pen super clean--fresh shavings. Is this a silkie thing, easily matted fluff? Can I wash these babies?

Well, nice to meet you. I look forward to reading more about these sweet and funny birds.

BUFF SILKIES HAVE HATCHED!!!!!

Pictures coming soon. I promise. Of the 6 that made it to lockdown, I had 5 make it out successfully and one that seemed to pip into a blood vessel and bleed out. It was very strange. But the five that made it out are happy and healthy. They came out late Thursday and made it into the brooder last night. I'll check toes and whatnot tomorrow, but a cursory view looks good. This is my first genetic mix, so I can't wait to see how they turn out. WhooHoo!!

I had four more eggs under a broody hen and they started hatching today. One buff is out and at least one is pipped. Fingers crossed on that one. The last broody has 7 buff silkie eggs and she is due next week. I can't wait to see how they all turn out!!!
