Silkie thread!

Mines are 6 months but they still look so small to be giving me eggs

The eggs are quite small to fit the size of the bird.

This is one of my Bantam eggs with one Regular egg in each bowl. for an experiment I did earlier.
The eggs still taste wonderful and many people will be surprised that you can eat a 7 egg omelet for breakfast!

There is a little less egg white but it is the perfect egg for doing an egg wash on pies or baked goods!

Hi there, finally joined BYC as a member today, after many months of feasting on the wealth of information and knowledge supplied by those who know their stuff. Started out, as I guess most did, with three gorgeous little Silkies, but soon discovered they're just like Jelly Beans; you cannot stop at one.

So now I have a few more Silkies, a very large open run with lots of housing, and now am keen to learn more about breeding, colours and everything else there is to know. Forgive me for starting with a question that has no doubt been asked many, many times, but am hoping someone can assist me with colour of this young cockerel and hen. I was thinking Silver Partridge for cockerel, but unsure of hen.

You would be right the salt changes the chemistry of the egg somehow if you let it sit salted for about 15 minutes before you cook the scrambled eggs.
I did it and it made a huge difference with just egg and salt the salted one were much fluffier way better color and they stayed together well enough out of the pan to eat them with a fork! It was super cool and I will salt all my scrambled eggs from now on.

and did you buy these guys from a breeder? they are stunning IMO,
ps I think there is something just a bit wonky with the roo's comb. I could be wrong but it looks kinda big?

Thank you for the welcome! I bought the hen from a breeder, and she told me she was a pale blue ?? and the cockerel came from fertile eggs we bought from a breeder, the eggs apparently from a mixed pen,and I "think" he's a silver partridge, but not totally sure. I absolutely love the colour of the hen and would really like to know what her "official" colour is. Until I started researching, I had no idea there were so many colours out there.

Roo's comb is huge, and had thought it a bit odd myself. I have two other roos with normal combs, nothing like this little guy's.

it seems like an egg would become dehydrated or at least loose some water if put in a salty environment due to osmosis
