Silkie thread!

Would it help if I gave my (soon to be) silkies a treat every day I held them? I really want my silkies to like me lol (they'll be my first) also I am not getting mine from tractor supply, I'm getting mine at dodge grain.

Silkies are naturally shy so be patient with them every day and don't wear them out as chicks. I set up our chick around my computer desk so she had fun sleeping on the warm keyboard or sitting on my arm or sleeping in my palm with a dish with shallow sides for her to eat and scratch and water of course. She got accustomed to my hand movements on the keyboard so wasn't afraid of my hands/fingers. I had a complete border around the area she used on the desk so she was safely enclosed. And, of course, treats are always the way to a chicken's heart! My young chick liked the soft centers of a cucumber slice (not too cold). The feed store man said to feed a strawberry but none of my breeds ever liked strawberries. It took them 5 years before they ate a banana and blueberries are fun for them to chase across the ground. Fresh mealworms are fun to feed chicks. My chick didn't like the dry mealworms until she got older.

The more you handle them , the more they will be accustomed to handling. I sit on the ground with my legs out in front and crumble boiled egg or cooked rice around, before long they are crawling all over you. Tap the ground where the food is and gently place your hand under the bird, between the legs, Palm up. After a while the birds are more relaxed with you touching them and you can try lifting them up just a few inches off the ground. Grasping them from above is very unnerving for the birds as this to them is considered ' predatory '.

Yes. It just isn't show quality, I believe. And personally, I wouldn't breed that bird for sq stock. Just my opinion

Ok. I think that one might be a rooster xD I have two and one of them has like really nice even wings (Feathers) and this one has choppy wings (Feathers) But idk because I've been told that silkies are really hard to sex when they're young especially wing sex.

A pullet is a female chicken up to the age of 12 months , at which time they are referred as a ' hen '. A cockerel is a male bird , once they are 12 months they are referred to as roosters.

Is there a difference between a cockerel and a pullet when they start feathering? like on their wings and their tale. My two silkies are starting to feather but the feathers on their wings are coming in very differently
