Silkie thread!

You're welcome! I lucked out, both buildings were already here when we bought the property. My husband and I did have to move the poop coop from the woods  (he picked it up with the excavator and hoisted it up above the trees to move it, was a bit sketchy  ), but we didn't have to do any construction.

Good luck getting the coop set up and ready, starting from the ground up gives you tons of options to customize your coop to your own preferences.

I want some peafowl too, and quail (I've had quail before, theres nothing cuter then a tiny, freshly hatched baby quail :love ) maybe next year. We decided to give Emu a go this year, so the peas will have to wait. I gave guineas a try, didn't care for them, but lots of folks love theirs :)

Thanks! I can just picture an outhouse being carried through the woods!! Haha!!

I won't complain too much- we don't pay for anything and it's a great job for him!!

I'm kind of thinking we might have to build up he coops up off the ground- we are right by the creek and canal (my husband monitors the canal level and adjusts the gates to make sure farmers get enough water from the canal) They said in the past 25ish years the creek has only flooded twice. (And it floods the only place I can put my birds) The house is up on a hill.

I just don't know if I'm willing to risk the possibility of my birds drowning if it ever did flood. At least with a coop up off the ground- they could get in it and escape.

Quail are so tiny and cute!! I've had a bit of everything before- never quail! Unfortunately we had to move and I was forced to get rid of everything.

But this job and house are secure! Yay!!

PS- I LOVE guineas haha. Must either be love or hate relationships lol

Hi all, can you help me with the color of these chicks? I hatched them from shipped eggs. The little blue (?) chick was marked white. The other chick looks white to me, but was marked BBS. I'd love a blue and a splash :). Thanks for your help!

This one could be splash, but my white chicks hatch out with some greyish down, which goes away and turns white. So, it could be white too.

Okay. So I just got my very first silkies. And I'm a newbie here... I didn't realize there was a difference between feed store birds quality and the quality of breeders' birds. Anywho... These silkies came from the feed store- I've been doing research on what makes a show quality silkie. I know he's young... But are these good qualities so far?

He holds his wings horizontally- they don't slant downward.

Okay- to me, this looks like good spacing in his toes.

He has feathers all the way down his middle toe and the outside of his leg

And I was a little confused by the 5th toe placement.... It said above and longer that the 4th toe and that it should curl upward

So I guess what I'm asking... Are these good qualities? I know the other qualities won't be able to be determined until he gets older... Like the length of his back, his top knot/crest, and the amount of hard feathers, etc.
