Silkie thread!

I have found that if the silkies are in with the larger birds from day 1, they respect each others space. It seems like when you try to introduce them to each other as they get older that the silkies get squished!

I had two day-old Silkies with 4 other LF day-old chicks in a brooder space and the LF chicks grew larger and faster than the Silkies and picked on them. The Silkies were having to hide all day from the LF chicks. The Silkie chicks had to run out from hiding to get a drink or feed. That kind of growing up has got to be stressful for the little Silkie chicks.

Thanks for this advise. I separated my little Silkie to protect her. She is quite limp, non responsive, eyes closed, still chirping though. I'm hoping she will sort up but I'm afraid she is in her way up.

That doesn't sound good. :( The most important thing with any sick or injured bird, is to keep them warm. I have picked chicks up that have fallen from the nest and thought they were dead, only to find that once they were brought back up to heat they were fine. :) A reptile heating pad or Eco brooder would be your best bet. :) I've even used a standard table lamp.

WANTED: I am desperately seeking a pair or trio of either red silkies or Partridge in state of Florida.....seems harder to find these colors.....pm me if you breed these colors please! Thanks!

If you find someone, let me know! I'm in FL and looking for a good silkie breeder (any colors)

There is lots of breeder in Florida there is indigo egg shanna Parker Gretchen snuggs
Indigo Egg has a website and she's on BYC. I'd like to get some of her/their birds

So I checked out Bobbi Porto's page, at Indigo Egg. She has some for sale, and states that she probably needs to down size.....check her out! I just got a e mail from her this am. She says she hatches all the time also....Located in Lutz , Fl. Just north of Tampa. About 20 min. From me!!! Woot!!

I have a dozen Bobbi Porto eggs in my incubator now! Due to hatch 2 weeks from yesterday. She has some absolutely gorgeous reds. Well, really all her colors are pretty and she is such a nice person to deal with. I ordered a mixed dozen with more of certain colors but I think she will send you a single color.if you ask. You never know with shipped eggs and they came all the way from Florida to Tennessee. But I've got 9 out of 12 that look good so far and I'm hoping for the best. I really want least one deep red silkie. I'll post pictures when they hatch.

All 25 of my babies arrived this morning happy and chirping! So far they've had a very rough start though. The clerk at the post office told me when he found them in the buggy they were turned up on their side! Poor babies! Here they are!
