Silkie thread!

I'm going to get 2 silkie chicks soon. I'm excited. Anything you guys have picked up as far as differentiating gender on young chicks, I know it probably won't be 100% but in Silkies is there typically a size difference between them or something similar that could indicate gender?

Some hens can crow so maybe he still could be a hen

They can, but you'll only see it in an old hen. Under one year of age, and crowing is always an indicator of a cockerel.

Cockerels tend to stand taller and higher than pullets. Try going for something with a horizontal stance. And while combs can be deceiving, especially at that age, you can't really go wrong picking birds with smaller and less noticeable combs.

One of my silkies this morning that I thought was a hen started crowing his head off this morning. What's weird is that it'll fly up into my arms and he loves to be pet. I hope that doesn't change. He's also one of my biggest silkies with what I think is another roo about his size and another roo much mallet than him.

Some of my friendliest birds are roosters. :)

Lol, I have a Wilkie pullet that started crowing when it was 16 weeks old. :)

That really depends on what age they are, if they are only 6 weeks there aren't any real obvious differences. Believe me , if there were I wouldn't have a ' bachelor ' pen. :lau
