I have only ever found two cures for a mean rooster. The first is puttin the fear of God into him. You need to scare the absolute crap out of him. Next time you go into the coop, wear shoes that are protective but not terribly damaging, e.g. tennis shoes. Wait for him to come at you, then punt him. If he comes back, do it again. Don't hold back, this needs to hurt - not damage, but definitely hurt. You have to remember that chickens were originally domesticated for for bloodsport - cockfighting. People looked at roosters and decided not, "that looks tasty" or "oh, how pretty!", but instead thought "look at those bad tempered little beasts, fighting until one has completely beat the crap out of the other!" After you've kicked him sufficiently that he's rethinking coming back for more, chase him. Run him up and down the yard and when you catch him, hold him by his legs and worry him. I like to lay them on the ground and mimick another rooster jumping on them by abruptly bringing my hand up through his feathers the opposite way the grow, and pushing his head onto the ground. Not hard enough to do any serious damage, but hard enough to be unpleasant.

The second cure is the stew pot, plain and simple. Never should a bad tempered cockbird who keeps up such antics even after a good butt-kicking he kept around to terrorize his poor owners. There are so many benefits to having a good rooster and so many good roosters who can't find a home that it's senseless to keep an awful bird who bites the hand that feeds him.

That is definitely considered animal abuse. You should never treat an animal like this. I agree with carrying him around or re-homing him. Kicking him is not humane and will only make the problem much worse. Trust me, our neighbor used to hit his rooster with a wooden board he only got meaner and meaner and they ended up having to kill him because you couldn't even enter the run without getting sliced by his spurs. Before the board he used to only challenge him. The whole reason he challenges you is because he thinks you are a threat. By hitting him or kicking him you only become more and more of a threat to him. You shouldn't cower to him or act scared of him but you definitely shouldn't kick him either! Try every time he attacks you turn around and pick him up carry him around till he doesn't fight anymore then let him go and do this everytime he attacks you. If you have a mean rooster you don't want give him away to someone who can handle him.

Can't decide whether it's rooster or hen and can't wait . Hasn't crowed yet and other roosters mount it

Someone plz help I just wouldn't do it but my dad say I have too and I don't want to do the wrong thing

I don't quite understand what you are asking. Are you having trouble filling out forms or cage cards for a show? If so, here's a link to a website that explains all the show abbreviations: http://www.pathfindersfarm.com/Cagecards.html

There are only certain colours that can be entered and shown under the APA. In the states I think the colours are white , black , buff and partridge. ( someone else might help out here ). Other colours are generally entered under ' all other breeds ' .

Yestrday i,found one of my 5 month old silkie chickens in a nesting box with one of my BO. I kicked her out of the box assuming she was hiding from the 5 month old silkie Roosters who were mounting her. It was my understanding that silkies take about 8 months to a year to lay. Well yesterday we found a little brown egg. I assumed one of my buff laid a wing egg. My kids thought it was adorable. We saved it to show their friends. Well today I found her back in the egg box and left her there, came back later and found another little egg. Could it really be that my 5 month old silkie is reAlly laying. And aren't her eggs supposed to be whit?

I could be waaaaaay wrong but, it doesn't look like a silkie egg to me. The shape and color is wrong. Looks luke its frim a different hen IMO. I have a 5 month old Partridge Silkie who "nests" but no eggs.
